Summary

The Orthopedic Technologist works directly with the providers and health services staff to ensure exceptional service is provided. This role participates in the delivery of orthopedic care through expertise in administration of injections and application and removal of casts, braces, splints and dressings. The right person for this position will be team oriented, service-minded and empathetic in their approach to our patients and their families.

  • Applies, Adjusts, and removes casts, assembles traction apparatus, and fits strappings and splints for orthopedic patients.
  • Assists health care providers during examinations as directed.
  • Assembles wooden, metal, plastic, or plaster material to make orthopedic splints, fracture beds, and exercise frames.
  • Instructs patients and patient's family in care of and assists patients in walking with casts, braces, and crutches.
  • Updates patient health history information as needed, keys data and scans various documentation into EMR Receives, disseminates for provider signature, and scans test results and clearances into EMR. Updates patient history in EMR within 24 hours of visit.
  • Maintains exam rooms which may include the following, prepares exam rooms including appropriate equipment for examination of patients on a daily basis. Disposes of contaminated supplies per protocol. Cleans and sterilizes medical instruments and equipment.
  • Other duties may also be assigned by Providers, Licensed Clinical Staff, or Site Manager.

Requirements:

Key Qualifications


• Knowledge of EHR system.


• Type at least 35 WPM.


• Excellent interpersonal communication skills.


• Knowledge of pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, surgical procedures as well as treatment modalities.


• Must be able to spell accurately.


• Strong organizational skills.


• Ability to multi-task and prioritize.


• Ability to remain calm under pressure.


• Ability to maintain quality control standards.


• Knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA requirements

Education and/ or Licensure

  • National Association of Orthopedic Technologist Certification preferred.
  • Military training/certification.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Current Basic Life Support (CPR, AED) certificates required
  • One to two years orthopedic and medical office experience preferred
