Director - Civic Engagement

Job Description:
Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by being responsible for programmatic areas of volunteerism, civic responsibility, and leading in service. Key programmatic areas of the Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) includes: Service-based student clubs, Community service and volunteer events, Civic Scholars, Campus-based service events, Alternative Breaks, and NU Visions Abroad international service programming.

Salary: $58,000/year or more depending on experience.

Essential Functions

Mentors service-based student clubs, student leaders, and faculty advisors:
Oversees budget development and accounting.
Provides regular budget reports to CCE student clubs.
Assists CCE student clubs with accounts payable and receivable.
Assists CCE student clubs with event programming, including communication, planning, registrations, execution, and reflection and assessment.
Facilitates professional, leader, and character development of students.
Coordinates campus, local, national, and international service-based programs, and travel.
Oversees the Civic Scholars program.
Recruits and select students in coordination with the Enrollment Management Team and with Student Financial Planning.
Serves as primary mentor to all Civic Scholars through the four-year service experience.
Supports Leadership Academy strategic direction and needs in collaboration with the Office of the Provost.
Helps to develop and implement a one-credit course for first-year students.
Mentors student leaders within the Leadership Academies.
Identifies, develops, and maintains transactional and relational connections as Norwich liaison with strategic community partners.
Serves as administrative advisor for the Student Government Association (SGA).
Ensures accountability to institutional policies and procedures, including the Norwich University Student Rules and Regulations (NUSRR) and all Financial Affairs policies and procedures.
Supports and develops student leaders and faculty advisors.
Encourages and facilitates engagement by the SGA and the student body in civic responsibility initiatives like campus, local, state, and national voter registrations and elections.
Oversees vision, direction, coordination, and execution of the NU Visions Abroad international service program.
Serves as primary liaison to academic departments and faculty in coordinating global service projects.
Delivers trainings and logistics guidance for faculty leaders.
Recruits, trains, and develops student participants and leaders.
Manages the NU Serves (Give Pulse) contract. Serves as primary liaison for user support, and interdepartmental use, and data tracking and reporting.
Oversees all department finances, including accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, deposits, and oversight for university philanthropic fundraising.
Evaluates, maintains, and enforces CCE policies, procedures, and protocols.
Identifies and implements best practices in student engagement and volunteer management.
Manages all internal and external CCE communication.
Recruits and trains student staff. Assess performance and provide developmental feedback.
Provides an annual department report, including data from all CCE programmatic areas.
Serves as a member of the Student Affairs Duty Officer rotation with occasional evening and weekend on-campus and on-call commitment.
Other Functions

Assesses the performance of direct reports and provides frequent feedback to optimize their performance.
Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or private information.
Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.
Serves on University committees, councils, workgroups, or other designated bodies as assigned.
Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.
Speaks, reads, and writes in English.
Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.
Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:
Bachelor's degree required. Bachelor's degree in social work, public administration, higher education, or related field preferred.
3 years of experience in volunteer and/or service-learning management.
Familiarity with Central Vermont and its nonprofit sector preferred.
Demonstrated experience mentoring college students.
Demonstrated event planning experience and success.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, PowerPoint, and Outlook) required; Banner and GivePulse experience preferred.
Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 25 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus
Work some evening or weekend hours
Travel as needed (public or private transportation)
Environmental Conditions

Indoor work at a computer workstation and indoor and outdoor work at campus and community event sites
Low level of exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes.
