Archivist for Education and Outreach Services
Job Description:
Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by connecting users to archival collections and services through the management of reference and researcher services. The Archivist is responsible for the design and direction of the archives education program, in collaboration with LAM and faculty and manages the unit's outreach program, designing and installing exhibits, coordinating events, and promoting the archives' services and collections to user communities on and off campus.
Essential Functions
Directs, in coordination with university faculty and LAM instructional staff, the Archives instruction and education program.
Coordinates reference and reproduction services, including on-demand digitization, to researchers both in the archives reading room and online.
Develops, implements, and evaluates strategies for marketing and outreach for the access and use of the University Archives, including research support to projects related to Norwich University history.
Performs social media management functions to promote the collections, services, and programs of the University Archives.
Manages work-study students employed by the University Archives, including hiring, training, project management and scheduling; may also apply to volunteers, fellowships and/or interns.
Leads initiatives to facilitate and encourage the use of archival collections and services.
Designs and coordinates creation of exhibits, programs, informational tools, and events, conducts tours and presentations, and other outreach-related projects.
Other Functions
Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or private information.
Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.
Serves on University committees, councils, workgroups, or other designated bodies as assigned.
Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.
Speaks, reads, and writes in English.
Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.
Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements:
Master's degree in library and/or information science from ALA-accredited institution.
1 year of relevant professional experience at an academic institution preferred.
Demonstrated interest or experience in teaching using archival collections or other primary sources and/or experience working with students in an academic setting.
Experience delivering reference and research support services to a diverse user population.
Experience working with archival collections in multiple formats, including audio, video, manuscripts, as well as digital content.
Experience working with social media tools.
Flexible and creative approach to problem solving.
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook). Experience with digital asset management software (such as CONTENTdm, OnBase, Sharepoint).
Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 40 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus.
Work some evening or weekend hours.
Travel as needed (public or private transportation).
Environmental Conditions
Indoor work in an office environment and both inside and outside donor residences.
Low level of exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes.
