POSITION OVERVIEW


The General Maintenance Supervisor provides leadership, direction, and coordination in the planning, implementation, and improvement of the entire maintenance function with primary focus on short-range execution of daily, weekly, and major repair schedules.

The General Supervisor is the "implementer" of the department and shall be focused on short-term execution and compliance of the AIMS.

Provides total safety and environmental compliance, increased availability and maximum reliability in a cost-effective manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ensures that all department work performed is done in a safe manner and that all work areas are maintained to meet or exceed all MSHA standards.
  • Fully develops the capabilities of all maintenance employees assigned to department through varied job assignments and increasing job challenges.
  • Ensures that all elements of the AIMS and local Maintenance Management process and standards are fully implemented and functioning.
  • Promotes and encourages teamwork and high-performance standards throughout the department.
  • Provides leadership in facilitating positive change.
  • Empowers subordinates to make decisions and be accountable for those decisions.
  • Ensures that the daily and weekly maintenance schedule is complied with.
  • Ensures that the daily and weekly maintenance schedule is communicated and coordinated with the operating unit affected.
  • Ensures that the weekly, "Asset Management/Scheduling Meeting" is held.
  • Ensures work order standard compliance, including closeout and proper work order coding.
  • Assists in the development of short and long-range maintenance management plans and budgets.
  • Ensures compliance and implementation of short and long-range maintenance management schedules and budgets.
  • Supports the Maintenance Planners, Maintenance Supervisors, Maintenance Engineers, and Craftsmen in their daily functions.
  • Provides direct leadership during the planning and execution of "major" maintenance repairs.
  • Communicates the key maintenance performance indicators as well as the companies KPI's.
  • Assists the Manager in directing the administration of corporate, property, department policies, work procedures and systems.
  • May perform scheduling duties.
  • Develop short and long-term projects which would increase equipment reliability, reduce costs, or increase production.
  • Participate in Safety Program.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, drawings, blueprints, technical documents, and specifications.
  • Work independently without direct supervision.
  • Use initiative and independent judgement.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Use a personal computer with working knowledge of maintenance management software, word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, and project management.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities that may include walking, standing, or sitting for long periods.
  • This job requires the incumbent to be persuasive with employees or individuals outside the company in situations involving unfamiliar issues or conditions.

Responsible for executing, supporting, and enforcing the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety program as required by OIS policy, directives, and principles.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES (Optional)

  • Must be available to respond to plant calls as needed.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to solicit input from his/her staff.
  • Strong mechanical skills.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college (Mechanical Engineering)
  • Seven (7) years of related experience
ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY

  • The job requires training or instruction in the area of Environmental Awareness.
  • This job requires training or instruction in the area of Safety & Health Awareness including completion of the appropriate OSHA and/or MSHA training.
