Canterbury anticipates openings for hardworking, collaborative, and flexible part-time assistant teachers in the school year. Assistant teachers work in Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and First grade classrooms. Assistant teachers help with classroom instruction, organization, student management, and preparation of materials under the direct supervision of the lead teacher.

Assistant teachers work from 7:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m. daily, or 27.5 hours a week.

The successful candidate is an educator who:

  • relates to and enjoys working with all children.
  • collaborates easily and effectively with other teachers.
  • participates in classroom instruction and activities as agreed upon and/or assigned by the lead teacher.
  • helps maintain an engaging, safe, and orderly classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • fosters a climate of respect for each child as an individual.
  • maintains strong relationships and communicates effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • supervises lunch, recess, carpool and other duties as required
  • participates in all required school events.
  • completes clerical duties as needed by the lead teachers is committed to the ongoing development and maintenance of an inclusive community.
    The successful candidate has:
    • A minimum of a high school degree and some training in education, but a college degree is preferred.
    • Successful relevant experience working with children.
    • Capacity to strive for unity, harmony, and cooperation through respect, tact, helpfulness, and recognition of individual differences within the school community.
    • Proven ability to work in a multifaceted environment while maintaining high standards of professionalism, discretion, and a commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • A positive, can-do attitude.
    • Passion for the mission and the vision of Canterbury School.
