Position Summary

The Fitments NPD Engineer is responsible for developing new product designs and revising existing designs, of injection molded plastic parts and assemblies, in collaboration with internal resources and end-users/end customers.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

· Product Design

· Create design concepts for new solutions

· Using voice of the customer (Sales input, Manufacturing input, etc.)

· Sketch or concept models to 3D CAD renderings

· Design components and assemblies

· Requires understanding of injection molding and hand / automated assembly techniques

· Use of 3D CAD modeling to create solid models of components and assemblies

· Creation of matching detailed product drawings and related specifications / parts or material lists as required

· Evaluate designs for engineering integrity

· Form, fit, function

· Lead DFMEA – Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis

· CAD design work and light fabrication for test fixtures, hand assembly fixtures, and quality fixtures

· Input data into document control systems (CAD, part numbering, BOM/routing creation, ECOs)

· Drive design and process optimization to include validation and production release of assigned products

· Ensure proper documentation is completed to meet quality system requirements including specifications for molds and equipment.

· Oversee and coordinate NPD and Quality lab testing of new and revised products
· Prototype Parts

· Use of 3D printers, prototype molds, hand assembly fixtures and other prototyping methods to create components and assemblies for testing and development.
· Revisions for existing designs

· Participate in process improvement opportunities and innovation on commercial products, including selection, evaluation, validation, and deployment of new materials for cost, quality, and sustainability goals.

· Participate on cross-function teams (Engineering, Quality, Sales, and Operations) and across manufacturing sites to support strategies including capacity expansion, quality improvement, supplier sourcing, logistics, equipment, and processes to meet key business goals.

· Other responsibilities and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or applicable experience progressing to this role). Experience: 3 years of experience or equivalent coursework in CAD design required, injection molding design or manufacturing experience preferred. Injection mold tooling experience preferred (design, build, or maintenance).

Specific skills: Ability to create and read mechanical drawings and part prints. Visualization in 3D is important. Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational and documentation skills including technical writing experience (creation of concise notes, design and test specifications, bills of material, test reports, and business presentations).

Equipment & Machinery: Technical knowledge in manufacturing with general understanding of plastics engineering, injection mold design & construction and injection mold processing. 3D printing familiarity preferred.

Computer Experience & Software: Proven expertise in IT platforms, Microsoft Office Suite, Minitab or similar Statistical Analysis software and 3D CAD experience (CREO proficiency required - SolidWorks, AutoCAD and Key Creator preferred). AutoDesk MoldFlow and PLC Windchill software experience preferred.
