The Head of Transmission will lead Pine Gate's transmission and interconnection strategy, directing a team of engineers in the effective navigation of interconnection processes across the US, while providing strategic insights regarding greenfield siting opportunities across Pine Gate's core markets. This leadership position, reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer, will play a critical role in shaping Pine Gate's greenfield siting strategy, bringing technical rigor and a forward thinking lens to identify and champion compelling points of interconnect. The Head of Transmission will be instrumental in maximizing the throughput of Pine Gate's existing pipeline through interrogative analysis and proactive management of the interconnection process from queue filing through NTP, assembling strategies to optimize around cost and schedule.

What You'll Do

  • Lead team in the effective distillation of project and portfolio-level risks related to interconnection, transmission and curtailment, and recommend associated mitigation strategies.
  • Lead team in the holistic analysis of anticipated future transmission topology, congestion, and power flows to identify and champion areas of focus for greenfield development efforts.
  • Direct team in the effective filing and advancement of queue positions across SERC, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, PJM, and WECC, ensuring the competitiveness and durability of Pine Gate's pipeline from an interconnection perspective.
  • Bring a high degree of technical rigor and pattern recognition, anticipating technical risks to Pine Gate's pipeline and identifying opportunities.
  • Direct team's engagement approach with transmission owners and system operators to optimize Pine Gate's interconnection positions around cost and schedule.
  • Stay abreast of potential regulatory and/or market reforms that could impact Pine Gate's pipeline, ensuring a virtuous cycle with development regarding threats and opportunities.
  • Support M&A activity by assessing and articulating the value proposition to Pine Gate from an interconnection/transmission perspective.
  • Lead transmission model development for third party and internal modeling of curtailment/basis analysis.

Must Haves

  • Minimum of ten years' experience in energy development or transmission planning
  • Solid understanding of Open Access Transmission Tariffs and Generator Interconnection Procedures and Study Methodologies for US ISO/RTO regions
  • Deep knowledge and holistic understanding of what it takes to bring utility-scale power projects from inception to completion
  • Strong leadership skills with proven track record of effectively managing team members and external consultants
  • Demonstrated ability to set departmental vision and strategy coupled with strong detail orientation
  • Pragmatic and effective communicator with proven ability to articulate technical risks in the context of broader development strategies
  • Strong existing relationships with utilities, transmission owners, and system operators
  • Highly resourceful with proven ability to timely achieve goals that require substantial coordination with internal and external team members
  • A desire to work in a fast paced environment where workflow and tight deadlines are often dictated by project opportunities and risks
  • Passion for clean energy deployment and desire to play a critical role in building Pine Gate's reputation as a best in class developer

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Advanced degree preferred
