Patient Care:
Position requires the ability to conduct psychosocial assessments of a wide variety of individuals from various socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, educational, and other diversified backgrounds.
Position requires a basic knowledge of human development and behavior (physical and psychological), and the differential influences of the environment, society, and culture.
Position required ability to work with patients and families who are experiencing basic emotional, medical, and social problems utilizing individual, group, and family counseling skills.
Work with more complex problems are done under close supervision.With guidance from the social work supervisor, ability to assess the psychosocial functioning and needs of patients and their family members, and to formulate and implement a treatment plan, identify the patient's problems, strengths, weaknesses, coping skills, and assistance needed.
Basic knowledge of psychosocial treatment modalities and under supervision, ability to implement treatment modalities in working with individuals, families, and groups to achieve treatment goals.
This requires judgment and skill in utilizing supportive, problem solving, or crisis intervention techniques.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, and representatives of community agencies.
Is able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people from varied backgrounds.
Has basic knowledge of medical and mental diagnoses, disabilities, and treatment procedures to include acute, chronic, and traumatic illnesses/injuries; common medications and their effects/side effects; and basic medical terminology.
Has working knowledge and skill in the use of word processing, data management, and other computer software. Ability to learn and utilize software programs in use by the VHA.Valid Driver's License
May have basic knowledge of veterans' benefits and services relating to special programs, service connected compensation, non-service connected pension.
Facilitates referrals based upon veterans needs and eligibility.May serve on committees, councils, workgroups, and/or task forces.
Serves as liaison to community agencies and networks with agency representatives.
Obtains and/or participates in continuing education.
