The Special Treatment Unit, a 500-bed secured forensic facility located in Avenel, NJ, with inpatient units are designed to treat adult males who have been civilly committed under the NJ Sexually Violent Predator's Act. The cognitive level varies with IQs ranging from 48 to 137. A small portion of our population have traditional Axis I psychiatric diagnoses, but many suffer from personality disorders.

Under the supervision of a Medical Director or Managing Physician/Psychiatrist, the Clinical Psychiatrist is the facility's specialist/consultant in the field of psychiatry, performing clinical responsibilities in accordance with the standard of care and unified service systems as well as within legal/judicial mandates and Patient's Bill of Rights. Will perform technical applications to meet The Joint Commission (TJC) standards and other relevant accreditation standards.

REQUIREMENTS/CERTIFICATION: Possession of current certification as a diplomate in the specialty of psychiatry issues by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of clinical experience in the practice of Psychiatry subsequent to Board Certification.

NOTE: A sub-specialty board certification in Addictions, Geriatrics or Forensics may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.

NOTE: A sub-specialty board certification in Child or Adolescent may be substituted for two (2) years of experience.

LICENSE: Possession of an Unrestricted License to practice medicine in the State of New Jersey. Possession of an unrestricted State of New Jersey Controlled Dangerous Substances license. Possession of an unrestricted Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration number.

LICENSE: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
