The chosen candidate will be responsible for assisting in surgery by preparing thin tissue samples of frozen skin for analysis.
This involves embedding, cutting tissue if necessary, straining, and placing cover slips on slides.The candidate will also be expected to perform complex histological procedures using a variety of techniques such as grossing, staining, drying, and freezing to preserve and test the samples.
Other duties include preparing tissue specimens for routine and special procedures to obtain a patient diagnosis, processing specimens, examining and studying slides under a microscope, recording and analyzing data, preparing media, chemicals, reagents, and solutions, preserving and storing samples, maintaining and repairing equipment, establishing and monitoring quality control programs, and performing required quality control, maintenance, and quality assurance.
