The function of the WVP Social Worker is to assist in coordinating the provision of comprehensive health care services to women veterans; medical and/or surgical health care services and psychosocial care of their physical and mental health needs.

The incumbent also assists in ensuring the coordination and provision of gender-specific and gynecological services; counseling and treatment for sexual trauma; appropriate psychiatric services such as drug and alcohol treatment and group therapy, which may have gender variations; endocrinology; and oncology (breast and reproductive cancers) to eligible women veterans.

The WVP Social Worker supports the WVPM in implementation of an aggressive outreach program to identify and locate women veterans in need of health care services.

The WVP Social Worker is a member of the Women Veterans Health Committee, meeting regularly to manage the care of women patients and to identify and address areas of special concern for women veterans who use the facility.

The incumbent assists with meeting minutes and other administrative needs specific to the Committee meeting.

The WVP Social Worker possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively apply all aspects of social work within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting.

The incumbent may be asked to accompany the WVPM in a variety of facility meetings for the purposes of strategic planning and monitoring the quality of care provided to women.

The WVP Social Worker demonstrates skill in public relations and community outreach and has membership on external committees providing services to women veterans and develops partnership with local and state groups providing services to women.

The Social Worker will fulfill ethical responsibilities to Veterans, colleagues and VA in accordance with relevant discipline Code of Ethics, VHA Code of Ethics, and local Ethics policies, which includes but is not limited to compliance with all laws and regulations related to confidentiality and release of information, and protecting Veterans' personal identifying information.

The incumbent evaluates his/her practice on an on-going basis through participation in professional peer review, case conferences, research studies, or other organized means.

Is active in and accepts responsibility for the development and maintenance of professional standards of treatment.

While this is primarily a clinic-based position there may be times when this position requires work in the community which may include the ability to operate a government vehicle and transport passengers.

Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Pay:

Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience.

Parental Leave:

After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.


Child Care Subsidy:
After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $
