The Tufts University School of Medicine's Department of Rehabilitation Sciences invites applications for a full-time, 12-month non-tenured faculty appointment at the level of Assistant, Associate or Professor rank to serve as the Director of Clinical Education (DCE) for the accelerated Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program in Phoenix, AZ. This two-year DPT program is a blend of online and on-campus activities, which allows the faculty member to live remotely to the School of Medicine Phoenix campus. However, DPT faculty members must be able to travel and stay in Phoenix, AZ for designated time periods each semester. Combinations of areas of clinical expertise are welcome, and we encourage interdisciplinary and diverse perspectives.

The DCE is responsible for developing, monitoring, and refining the clinical education component of the curriculum at the Tufts DPT Phoenix location. The DCE facilitates quality learning experiences for students during clinical education, as well as educates students, clinical, and academic faculty about clinical education. This administrative role within the program has a critical responsibility to select clinical learning environments that demonstrate characteristics of sound patient/client management, ethical and professional behavior, and currency with physical therapist practice. The DCE will collaborate with the clinical education team in the Office of Graduate Student Services as well as the Tufts DPT Boston and Tufts DPT Seattle locations to maximize available resources for the clinical education program. The DCE has primary oversight and provides documented records and assessment of the clinical education component at the DPT Phoenix location (including the clinical education sites, clinical educators, etc.).

Successful candidates should possess excellent communication skills and strong technological skills to meet the needs of our online didactic instructional format. We desire a team-oriented colleague who is willing and able to collaborate and share instructional methods and student learning activities. We also are eager to identify candidates who show a genuine appreciation of evidence-based teaching, integration of technology within the classroom, and building a student-centered community within the online classroom.

This position is a non-tenure-track faculty position with salary and rank commensurate with qualifications. Candidates for the rank of Assistant Professor must demonstrate the potential to become independent investigators and teachers. If candidates seek the rank of Associate Professor, he/she must have a proven track record of scholarship, extramural research funding, and graduate student advising and teaching at the Doctoral level. Additionally, the successful candidate will understand higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for leadership in physical therapy clinical education; knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting didactic and clinical education, students, and the profession of physical therapy. The candidate should have a minimum of 3 years of full-time clinical practice and 2 years as a CI or SCCE. The candidate should be licensed or eligible for physical therapist licensure in the state of Arizona or their state of residence.

Essential Tasks and Functions of the DCE:

· Plan, coordinate, facilitate, administer, and monitor activities on behalf of the academic program and in coordination with academic and clinical faculty,

· Develop, monitor, and refine the clinical education component of the curriculum,

· Ensure clinical education contracts and student onboarding at sites occur in a timely manner,

· Assist with program accreditation components that pertain to clinical education,

· Facilitate quality learning experiences for students during clinical education,

· Evaluate students' performance, in cooperation with other faculty, to determine their ability to integrate didactic and clinical learning experiences and to progress within the curriculum,

· Educate students, clinical and academic faculty about clinical education,

· Select clinical learning environments that demonstrate characteristics of sound patient/client management, ethical and professional behavior, and currency with physical therapy practice

· Maximize available resources for the clinical education program,

· Provide documented records and assessment of the clinical education component (includes clinical education sites, clinical educators, etc.),

· Actively engage core faculty in clinical education planning, implementation, and assessment,

· Lead the Phoenix clinical education team (faculty and staff) to ensure program goals are met

· Collaborate with the other Tufts DPT Program clinical education teams (ex. Boston, Seattle locations).

6. Demonstrates the ability to handle a wide range of responsibilities in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program to include teaching, service, scholarship, advising/coaching

We seek a collegial individual who has a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and is licensed in their state. This individual must have a minimum of three years of full-time post-licensure clinical practice. Two years of clinical practice must include experience as a SCCE or CI in physical therapy, or a minimum of two years of experience in teaching, curriculum development and administration in a physical therapy education program. We prefer candidates with ABPTS specialization in a discipline appropriate for teaching responsibilities or a terminal academic doctorate in a discipline appropriate for teaching responsibilities.
