The position of SVP, Ambulatory Operations represents an outstanding opportunity for a mission-driven, dynamic, transformational, engaging healthcare leader to impact the future of the East Market at Essentia Health.

The Opportunity:

Essentia Health, a mission driven, non-profit, $3B integrated healthcare delivery system serving patients in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North Dakota is seeking a Senior Vice President, Ambulatory Operations (SVP, Ambulatory Operations) for the East Market.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, East Market, the SVP, Ambulatory Operations, a newly established role within the East Market, is accountable for the operations, administration, evaluation, and ongoing development of significant clinical and support functions within Essentia Health's East Market including the Departments of Medical Specialties, Primary Care, Behavioral Health, Oncology Services, and Elder/Palliative/Hospice Care. There are approximately 290 physicians and providers, 1900 employees and 38 ambulatory clinics supporting these departments within and across the East Market. The SVP, Ambulatory Operations functions in a triad relationship with the Senior Division Chair and the Director of Nursing.

The Ideal Candidate:


• An undergraduate and master's degree or advanced degree in a related field such as MBA, MHA are required.


• Minimum of 10 years of progressive management experience required.


• Must have experience in a matrixed health system environment; minimum of 10 years of experience leading ambulatory operations and multiple related clinical services in a complex system, ideally in a rural and geographically dispersed environment.


• Experience working with clinicians, operators, and all levels of leadership to ensure application and sustainability of Essentia Health's experience.


• Proven ability to build a cohesive, high functioning team across the network working in partnership with other organizations.


• Successful experience in process improvement methodology (i.e., Lean, Six Sigma or other) and success utilizing technology to help improve clinical operations and efficiency (i.e., AI, telemedicine, digital front end, etc.)


• Proven ability to drive organization innovation and change.


• Demonstrated success at inspiring teams and business partners to collaborate and deliver exceptional results.


• A history of valuing diversity and inclusion and the ability to understand diverse communities.


• Experience in a union environment is preferred.

The Organization:

Essentia Health is divided into two Markets, the East and West Markets. Essentia Health East remains the system's most important geographic segment, representing approximately 70% of total operating revenue for the system with $2B net revenue and is comprised of 9 hospitals and 38 ambulatory clinics across a broad, expansive rural geography. The East Market runs from International Falls, the most northern part of Minnesota in Arrowhead County all the way down to Spooner and Hayward in northwest Wisconsin.
