THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a SHEET METAL MECHANIC (AIRCRAFT), Position Description Number D and is part of the HI AASF 1, National Guard.

LOCATION: Army Aviation Support Facility #1, Hawaii Army National Guard, Wheeler Army Airfield, Hawaii



Duties

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The purpose of this position is to perform sheet metal maintenance on aircraft and components.

  • Inspects and troubleshoots aircraft structures such as fuselage, tail, wings, cowlings, and stabilizers.
  • Repairs cracks in aircraft skin. Fabricates and fits patches to damaged areas as necessary to retain or restore original strength.
  • Sets up, operates, and maintains power shears, metal brakes, rolls, dimpling machines, drills, saws, heat-treating furnaces, hardness testers, arc and oxyacetylene welders and other metal working equipment and tools of the trade.
  • May paint, strip, or stencil aircraft and/or components. Participates in the safety program for the sheet metal function.
  • May assist in other functions within the Component Repair Shop in the accomplishment of mission requirements.
  • May assist authorized firefighters in the performance of fire/crash/rescue duties as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
