This position is in the Data Services Division (DSD), Office of Innovation, Office of Inspector General (OIG), Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
DSD seeks to identify and obtain important sources of internal and external data; promote the use of analytics and technical assessments in OIG audits, inspections, and investigations; and conduct projects to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of OIG's internal operations.
DSD is responsible for assisting OIG program offices to leverage data and incorporate data analytics in all aspects of DHS OIG's mission.
DSD performs all activities related to the development of the DHS OIG Data Analytics Cloud System (DACS).
Serves as DSD's expert and authoritative source in statistical areas with respect to all phases of study design, data analysis, and statistical interpretation of the results relating to projects under consideration.
Evaluates study proposals in terms of appropriateness of study design, outcome measures, data collection and analysis methods, and quality control.
Typical assignments include:
Examines and evaluates the quality of large datasets, including the integrity, precision, and sources of error or bias in the data.
Designs and implements workflow automation, algorithms, and code (R, Python, SAS) for analyzing complex datasets to conduct data modeling, data mining, and advanced research.
Combines, analyzes, visualizes, and interprets large and/or complex datasets to perform exploratory analyses, including frequency distributions, multivariate modeling and analysis, statistical sampling, risk models, simulations, and other advanced analytic testing.
Develop and maintain statistical analysis programs for databases.Provides statistical support to OIG program offices to make informed projections, data-driven decisions, and recommendations based on findings.
