ABOUT THE JOB

The University of Minnesota's Research Animal Resources (RAR) department is seeking a clinical veterinarian to provide veterinary medical care for laboratory animals used in research programs. The ideal candidate should be autonomous, motivated, and service-oriented.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Clinical Veterinarian will provide clinical care to research animals, support regulatory compliance programs, offer teaching and training sessions, assist in process development and implementation, engage in professional development activities, and undertake additional duties as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Clinical Care (40%): Provide preventative, emergency, and routine veterinary care, conduct examinations, surgeries, and communicate with relevant personnel.
  • Support for Regulatory Compliance Programs (15%): Participate in research protocol design, ensure compliance with laws and regulations, and assist in the procurement and disposal of veterinary substances.
  • Teaching/Training (15%): Create and deliver educational sessions for various stakeholders, mentor veterinary students, and support research projects.
  • Process Development and Implementation (15%): Identify areas for improvement, review SOPs, enhance training programs, and provide leadership on departmental subcommittees.
  • Professional Development (10%): Participate in research projects, attend events, and contribute to national meetings and committees.
  • Additional Duties (5%): Undertake tasks as assigned by superiors.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:

- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree

- Excellent communication skills

- Ability to manage tasks effectively

- Problem-solving abilities

- Veterinary license in Minnesota within 3 months of start date

PREFERRED:

- Experience in laboratory animal medicine

- ACLAM Certification or eligibility

- Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations

- Proficiency in computer skills
