Position Overview

Work in a fast-paced environment, participating on engineering teams designing, testing, integration, and development support of next generation robotic systems for the U.S. Military. The systems engineer is responsible for logical and systematic transformation of customer requirements and needs into a total system solution using the best of practice processes and techniques. The candidate will be the primary technical interface with the customer on all processes involved in systems engineering. They will be a hands-on person that will work closely with multi-disciplined integrated product teams consisting of program managers, software, mechanical, electrical, process, and manufacturing engineers throughout the product's lifecycle including requirements development, design, verification/validation, deployment, and sustainment.

The candidate will be capable of performing a wide range of program support & systems/design engineering functions, including requirements management, verification, and validation (V&V), test engineering, and parametric solid modeling using expert knowledge of materials analysis, flight testing and airworthiness qualification criteria, engineering or engineering management processes, and familiarity of prime contractor/airframe OEM design ideology to guide product development teams. Knowledge and experience in systems engineering is also desired in the following areas: mission requirements analysis, system hierarchy and specification tree development, functional analysis, systems integration, requirements flow-down and allocation, trade studies, system synthesis, configuration definition and management, risk analysis, and hazard analysis.

This candidate must have a proven track record as a engineer working on DoD development programs or in the field of robotics. This person may also support systems logistics and lifecycle management tasks as well as support various process improvement initiatives within the group.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of product design descriptions, requirements and system test documentation, safety analysis reports, and technical analyses against requirements
• Lead and support a system reliability program; gathering and analyzing reliability data
• Lead managing of key product performance factors at a system level
• Verifying and validating system and component performance to specifications
• Support development of test fixtures to validate complex systems, subsystems, and components
• Lead and support integration troubleshooting at system and subsystem levels
• On-site trial install of prototype or production ready components to support design and development effort
• Airworthiness qualification guidance and direction
• Parametric solid modeling and drawing support of various QinetiQ's ARMS product lines
• Technical writing support of product qualification documentation and user manuals
• Engage in on-site program support responsibilities of QinetiQ's ARMS product lines including:
  • Provide direct customer support
  • Assessment of priorities and resources
  • Ensuring all requirements are met and delivered in accordance with program management plans
  • Support QinetiQ's manufacturing resources during prototype and production builds
  • Coordination with production, purchasing, planning, and Quality with respect to product change orders, RMAs, and shipments

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical-Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering; MS preferred.
• At least 10 years of relevant industry experience
• Experience with fielded DOD systems and/or prior work in the field of robotics or survivability equipment
• Solid engineering background
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment
• Ability to work independently and manage priorities and tasks over multiple projects
• Experience requirements management and traceability
• Experience with validation of complex systems
• Experience with Military Standards, such as MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-882, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, and RTCA DO-160/DO-178
• Familiar with test/production equipment such as Instron machines, environmental chambers, presses, etc.
• Extensive experience with NIJ and STANAG ballistic armor design specifications
• Extensive experience with vehicle-based system integration
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Occasional domestic travel ( 30%) may be required
• Occasional international travel ( 20%) may be required
• Frequent local travel within Massachusetts and neighboring states may be required

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge and experience with DOD, SAE, IEEE, and/or IPC standards
• Experience with DOORS or an equivalent Requirement Management tool
• Working knowledge of Electrical Engineering Computer Aided Design (ECAD) tools
• Working knowledge of Mechanical Engineering Computer Aided Design (MCAD) tool
• Working knowledge with LINUX and WINDOWS Operation Systems
• Experience with machine automation and/or integration with automotive or military vehicles
• Experience with integration of radio communications and/or knowledge of RF / wireless principals
• Experience in system reliability analysis using both calculated and measured data
• Familiarity with CMMI Level 3 Processes
• Experience in design of test fixtures
• Experience with Windchill and Windchill Quality Solutions
• Familiar with Data Collection and Analysis tools
