Position Summary

General Job Knowledge - Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, procedures, use of equipment and Hospital and departmental policies necessary for job

performance.

Observe, monitor, and report the overt physical condition and behavior of assigned patients(s) or level of comfort and/or discomfort, vital signs within established parameters, and/or skin integrity. Documents observations and findings in accordance with established standards and reports results to nurse, as appropriate and in a timely manner

Performs delegated nursing treatments and procedures such as enemas and female/male catheterization and simple dressing changes. Does not apply or change sterile dressings. ** only if CNA

Participates in patient activities and interacts with patient's behaviors following therapeutic program guidelines. Leads/co-leads expressive groups

Takes, records and reports patient's vital signs which include blood pressure, temperature, respiration and pulse on a scheduled basis, weighs patient and records

data.

Provides personal assistance with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing and transferring. Changes linens. Assists with feedings and ambulating. Monitors

intake and output ** only if CNA

Coaching patient to bathe, dress, eat and drink.

Educational Requirements

1. High school diploma or equivalent; AA degree or above preferred especially in psychology, sociology or counseling

OR,

2. Certified Nursing Assistant by Maryland Board of Nursing or eligible by reciprocity from VA. WV, NY, DE, ID, IL, KA, OR, ME, FL

OR,

3. Nursing student who is currently enrolled in an approved nursing program and has completed Board equivalent courses

Licensure/Certification/Registration: CPR certification

Experience Requirements

· Prior experience in mental health and/or substance abuse is preferred

· If possesses CNA license - experience must be current

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb, reach, sit, bend, push/pull, kneel, stoop, crouch, lift, balance and perform repetitive movements. The employee must lift up to 50 pounds independently and up to 300 pounds through assisted lifting. The employee uses hearing, speech, smell and tactile senses. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
