General Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

University Health Services (UHS) is seeking a Clinical Associate psychiatrist to provide direct medical care in an outpatient adult mental health care setting to a diverse patient population of students, post-doctoral fellows, residents and trainees who are enrolled and in training within the Schools on the Johns Hopkins East Baltimore Medical Campus and Johns Hopkins and Bayview

Hospitals. Psychiatrist will be assigned a target number of face-to-face patient contact appointments and is expected to meet the target productivity standards for the mental health practice of UHS.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical Associate psychiatrist will see a variety of patients for evaluation and treatment at UHS. Psychiatrist will see patients referred for psychiatric diagnostic evaluations, provide medication evaluations and follow-ups, utilizing established protocols and assessment tools. All visits are scheduled by UHS scheduling staff. The psychiatrist will provide emergency clinical coverage when needed, provide clinical supervision to therapists in the program, and adhere to all documentation requirements of the program.

Clinical Associate will provide psychiatric services on the days and at the times established and scheduled by UHS, including a reasonable amount of after hours, night, weekend and holiday call coverage, which will be coordinated with the other physicians and shared equitably in the practice.

The Clinical Associate will provide ongoing consultation and management as requested or as necessary, in accordance with accepted standards of psychiatric practice. The psychiatrist will attend such administrative meetings, as needed.

Clinical Associate psychiatrist will utilize the electronic medical records system to fulfill all administrative responsibilities attendant to his/her performance of direct patient care, including but not limited to, timely and accurate completion and entry of patient notes of all patient encounters detailing services provided and treatment plans recommended, and other required documentation required by the Johns Hopkins Hospital, in accordance with its medical staff bylaws, and the policies and procedures of the Johns Hopkins Clinical Practice Association, and UHS.

Clinical Associate psychiatrist will be expected to meet the target productivity standards for the mental health practice of UHS, and is expected to have a full patient schedule during his/her clinical schedule; clinical activity and productivity will be tracked periodically and provided and you will not be penalized if a scheduled patient does not show up at the time of his or her scheduled appointment.

In providing physician services, Clinical Associate will exercise independent medical judgment consistent with approved methods and practices in his/her specialty and in the best interest of the patients.

Other duties as assigned.

Supervises:

Supervisory responsibilities will include review of the clinical work of therapists.

Qualifications

Licensure, Certifications, Registration:

M.D. Degree or the equivalent from an accredited medical school.

Psychiatrist must be licensed to practice medicine and prescribe all pharmaceuticals in Maryland, and must be Board certified (or eligible for certification with prompt satisfaction of all necessary requirements for certification) by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Psychiatry, and must maintain Board certification throughout duration of employment.

Psychiatrist must complete sufficient continuing medical education credits to satisfy Maryland medical license/license renewal requirements.

Psychiatrist shall have DEA Certification and State of Maryland Controlled Substance (CDS) Certification. Psychiatrist shall be credentialed at Johns Hopkins Hospital prior to start date.

Qualifications:

Excellent diagnostic, therapeutic, and interpersonal skills. Outstanding verbal and written communication, and the ability to interact well with patients, family members, colleagues, staff. Reliability, flexibility, professional manner, and organizational skills are essential. Must have excellent attention to detail and record keeping. Must be able to problem solve, prioritize responsibilities, and manage several priorities at once. Must be adaptive to changing technologies, for example, electronic medical records.

Physician shall at all times be qualified, professionally competent, and duly licensed to practice psychiatric medicine and prescribe all pharmaceuticals in the State of Maryland and shall complete requirements for obtaining and maintaining licensure, including successful completion of required background checks. Physician shall obtain and maintain a current registration with the following, as applicable: Federal Drug Enforcement Administration, the Maryland State Division of Drug Control, and/or other applicable agencies of the State of Maryland. Physician represents that as of the Effective Date, he/she is not subject to, or threatened with any investigation, censure, probation, suspension, or other adverse action with respect to his/her medical license in any jurisdiction.

Experience :

Completion of ACGME Psychiatry Residency training program.

Clinical experience with graduate student populations in an outpatient setting is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing and walking for extended period of time. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Stooping and bending. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). Ability to move standard equipment through a clinical environment.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
