Estimator/Production Planner

Estimate digital imaging production job costs. Consults with internal and external customers to discuss and formulate estimates. Analyzes sketches, drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documents to prepare time, cost, labor, percentage of profit, and material estimates for various production jobs by performing the following duties personally.

Processes order entries into production system, based on estimates, order entry, and shop schedule. Write detailed production sheets, material lists, and follow-up information as needed for jobs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Receives all quotation requests from the sales department and prepares estimates.

Gathers information necessary to estimate job including artwork, blueprints, specifications, and other related material.

Works closely with internal and external customers to formulate estimates and resolve conflicts.

Compiles list of material, labor, and time requirements, and estimates equipment requirements and sub contracted services, utilizing knowledge of products and printing techniques.

Receives and checks for correctness, purchase orders for printing and imaging jobs or accounts.

Computes cost estimates and price summaries for specified jobs, and presents prepared estimates.

Checks job cost sheets daily for accuracy.

Checks daily labor cost summary for adherence to schedule, overtime accrual, productive and nonproductive labor, and makeover costs.

Conduct special studies as necessary to establish standard cost data or to effect cost reductions.

Maintains cost data base.

Maintains cleanliness of work area and equipment.

Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and seminars, continuing education courses, and reading related technical publications.

Preview order entry and quotes to assure accuracy and completeness of information.

Prepare the production order for, which includes complete product specifications, stock pull tickets, packing and shipping instructions. Enclose approved artwork

Write up purchase requisitions for outside services on specific jobs per quote for purchasing department.

Work closely with Account Coordinator, Customer Service Representatives, and estimating to ensure accurate information.

Complies and develops list of materials needed for job.

Delivers supplementary instructions to production personnel when necessary.

Provides backup to scheduling, expediting, and other departments as necessary.

Maintains cleanliness of work area and equipment.

Review jobs and provide better means of production, vs. what was estimated, find cost savings.
