Job Description
Title: Automation Technician
Reports to: Director
Department: Operations
Exemption Status: Non-exempt
Location: Weatherford, TX
Primary Focus:
Safely maintains and, at times, installs all electrical, instrumentation and communications
equipment of processing facilities, compressors, compressor stations, meter stations and other
pipeline related facilities/equipment to ensure efficient operations.
Key Accountabilities:
• Performs all job functions within the Safety and Environmental policies of Colt Midstream, LLC
and Governmental laws and orders
• Actively participates in Safety program which is to include regular scheduled safety meetings
and training up to and including the participating in the investigation and documentation of
incidents and accidents involving company and contract personnel
• Ensure 99% electrical, automation, and communication availability on all equipment
• Provide technical knowledge and decision-making capabilities to troubleshoot and repair a
variety of electrical, instrument, pneumatic, and control systems
• Responsible for ensuring all shutdowns, controls, transmitters, recorders, chromatographs,
analyzers, control valves, and measurement facilities are calibrated and functioning properly
• Assist in servicing the above-mentioned equipment and devices
• Orders necessary materials to ensure normal operations
• Directs and supervises contract labor when necessary
• Assists with radio, satellite, and network communications
• When needed, performs other Tasks, Duties and Roles as directed by System Supervisor and/or
Plant Supervisor
• Remove and replace fuses, electric motors and belts, change gauges (temperature, pressure, etc.)
on up to 480V equipment
• Responsible for upkeep and appearance of all facilities
• Approximately 80% outside operations in all types of weather and 20% in office environment; also
requires entering information into Colt databases
• Maintains good economic thinking skills while working under tight budgetary demands
• Collaborates well with direct supervisor to develop procedures and ideas on improving overall
electrical and automation programs
Physical Demands:
• While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit;
feel
and reach with hands and arms; the employee is required to reach with hands and arms above his
head as well as stoop and kneel to reach items below his normal reach
• The employee is frequently required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk
or hear
• The employee is occasionally required to use sense of smell
• Performs minor maintenance as necessary with medium to heavy lifting requirements; the employee
must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include good vision
Work Environment:
• Technicians are required to reside within 30 minutes response time to their areas
• Works mostly unsupervised
• Available 24 hours per day for on-call needs such as emergency situations response and equipment
malfunctions on a rotating weekly basis with other technicians in the group
• Occasional long hours due to tight deadlines
• Must be able to remain calm and focused during emergencies or high-stress situations
• Frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and electrically charged
equipment
• Work in high, precarious places with proper fall protection and proper PPE
• Work near toxic or caustic chemicals with proper PPE
• The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); fumes or airborne
particles; risk of electrical shock and vibration
• The noise level in the work environment may be above 90 dBA. Must be able to use hearing
protection
• Expected to work well with others, mentor less-qualified personnel, and treat others with
respect
Qualifications:
Education:
• High School Diploma/GED required
Experience & Skills:
• Minimum of 5 years related experience in instrument and electrical controls or equivalent mix of
formal education and experience
• Knowledge of Radio, Satellite and Network communications preferred
• I/E - Willing to cross-train in communications
• Must have fluent computer knowledge and working knowledge with P & ID’s and Electrical
Diagrams
• Good communication and problem-solving/troubleshooting skills
• Team player
• Self-motivated and driven
• High integrity
