Helix Earth Technologies Inc. is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, who will report directly to the CEO. The position will be onsite and located at our Houston, TX offices.


About You:


  • You are a mechanical design engineer that is passionate about working on developing cutting-edge technologies that make a meaningful impact on our planet.
  • You have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a mechanical engineer.
  • You have a bias for action and enjoy meaningful collaborations optimizing designs and also delivering on the design and iterating quick.
  • You enjoy large, cross-disciplinary challenges and are excited to learn about thermal engineering, materials science & electronics.


Job Responsibilities:


  • Product development from initial concept to design fruition and design for manufacturing. Responsibilities include system level design, component design, preliminary industrial design, and design for manufacturing.
  • Scale up manufacturing of systems and components in collaboration with manufacturing partners.
  • Utilize rapid prototyping & additive manufacturing to build products and prototypes. 
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify new materials, components, and processes that can enhance the performance and cost-effectiveness of systems.
  • Develop and execute test plans and experiments to validate prototypes and verify compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design engineers, thermal engineers, materials scientists, chemical engineers, and manufacturing engineers, to ensure seamless integration of system components into the final products.
  • Experience designing sheetmetal components, welded assemblies, and plastic components.
  • Experience with exterior finishing (paints, coatings, platings, etc.).
  • Design of blowers, fans, pumps, heaters, and other thermal-fluid system components.
  • Comfortable sourcing and designing basic electrical components.
  • Engage with external collaborators such as researchers, suppliers, and manufacturers as needed.
  • Participate in consumer research and product ideation as needed.
  • Participate in design review meetings.


Qualifications:


  • B.S. or M.S. in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience (e.g., aerospace, medical device hardware design, consumer product design, and HVAC systems design).
  • Understanding of the fundamental principles of mechanical engineering, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer. 
  • Highly experienced with SolidWorks CAD Software.
  • Highly experienced in design for manufacturing.
  • Industrial design experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of JIRA or similar software (e.g., ClickUp).
  • The ability to think creatively and devise novel solutions.
  • The ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Maintenance of a persistent attention to detail.
  • Capable of working in a small (< 10 people), fast-moving, and agile team.


Helpful background:


  • Familiarity with materials science and selection, especially in corrosive and reactive materials.
  • Experience in P&ID for refrigeration/compression cycles.
