Westminster Catawba Christian School (WCCS) is an Infant - 12th grade Christian school located in Rock Hill, SC. With a mission to educate students to bless our world as disciples of Jesus Christ, WCCS serves nearly 750 students from York County and its surrounding communities.


POSITION OVERVIEW:  

Reporting to the Elementary School Principal, the Self-Supported Classroom Teacher Assistant will be responsible for assisting the lead teacher in a multi-grade (K5-5th) small group of students with intellectual and/or developmental needs. This is a full-time (7:30am - 3:00pm) on-site (2240 Rosewood Drive, Rock Hill) position.

QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS:  The Employee will be:

  • Faithful in providing a Christian education marked by the biblical integration of faith and academic content
  • Knowledgeable in general areas of child growth and development and program/curriculum used in school level
  • Purposeful in providing a safe, inviting, interactive and well-managed classroom environment
  • Committed to maintaining the appropriate degree of confidentiality and professionalism
  • Supportive of the whole WCCS community and works collaboratively in team-oriented environments with parents, students, fellow teachers, and administrators


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES – The Employee:

  • Assists the teacher in working with individuals and groups of students
  • Assists in supervising students in indoor and outdoor activities
  • Assists teacher in maintaining a clean and orderly classroom environment
  • Assists teacher in gathering student observation and assessment information
  • May provide input to assist teacher with preparation of lesson plans
  • Assists students in bathroom procedures (EC)
  • Assist with the implementation of emergency procedures and first aid
  • Orients substitutes in following established classroom routine/procedures to meet individual student needs
  • Attends designated meetings and in-service training
  • Other duties as assigned by principal


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Kingdom Educator Assistant - Must have at least a high school diploma or state equivalency certificate 
  • College coursework and previous experience in a Christian school is preferred
  • Experience in special education preferred


Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with children, especially those with special needs
  • Knowledge of special education principles and practices
  • Ability to implement behavior management strategies
  • Patience, empathy, and a supportive attitude
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • A bachelor's degree in special education or a related field is preferred
  • Experience with assistive technology and adaptive resources is a plus
