Description:
You will design and execute on the in vivo pharmacology strategy for our pipeline programs in the metabolic disorder therapeutic area, including energy expenditure, obesity/healthy weight loss, lean muscle mass preservation/sarcopenia. You will have the opportunity to recruit your “dream team” of pharmacologists and biologists, as well as identify and manage CROs to supplement internal capacity and expertise, to support data generation for a growing pipeline. In parallel, you will take ownership for delivering value-generating PK, PD and efficacy data for our frontrunner program via CRO partnerships that you implement.
You will also take on a matrixed Discovery Project Team leadership role, in addition to your managerial duties, to co-lead one or more pipeline programs. In close collaboration with the Head of Discovery Biologics, you will help identify and validate lead candidates from our internally developed state-of-the-art ML platform, and our external antibody discovery platforms. You will be primarily responsible for delivering the in vivo pharmacology data required to advance early candidates towards the clinic, working closely with DMPK and nonclinical toxicology.
As a valued member of the leadership team of the Drug Discovery Research (DDxR) department of Fable Therapeutics, you will contribute to strategic decisions a on lab infrastructure, lab informatics and automation of data processes, and best practices collaboration with the ML leadership team. You will also contribute to shaping future programs based on your deep domain knowledge of target biology in the endocrinology and/or metabolic disease areas.
This is an on-site role. Flexible working hours to promote a balance between productivity and wellness can be accommodated with manager approval.
Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of delivering mission-critical in vivo data for Fable’s front-runner biologics program
- Contribute to new target identification and co-lead target validation studies
- Devise target & indication specific validation, translational and biomarker strategies, fit-for-purpose according to pipeline stage from target identification to IND
- Recruit a team of pharmacology and biology experts capable of developing functional, phenotypic cellular assays & delivering accretive in vivo data
- Contribute to a high performance culture through your nurturing of your team and the greater Fable culture
- Primary accountability to identify, evaluate and manage CROs for in vivo pharmacology to complement your in-house capabilities
- Assume a Discovery Project Team co-leadership role, as well as supporting and mentoring junior team members to grow into this role
- Contribute to overall DDxR growth and infrastructure strategy
About You:
- PhD/postdoc and 8+ years industry drug discovery experience OR MSc and 10+ years experience
- Deep domain knowledge metabolic disease biology
- Experienced in designing in vivo studies tailored to antibody/biologics PK considerations
- Able to operate at the interface of Discovery & Development, with a clear understanding of translational requirements for our drug candidates
- Extensive experience designing and delivering impactful in vivo pharmacology studies with a track record of delivering impact on drug discovery
- Track record of developing high quality cellular and ex vivo assays using primary cells, spheroids, organoids, or similar systems
- Experienced conducting basic in vivo studies for pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic readouts in conjunction with efficacy studies
- Experienced managing CROs and in-house animal work
- Experienced leading discovery project teams in a matrixed environment
- Able to work flexibly and deliver high quality in a fast-moving environment
- Able to think differently and problem solve creatively to meet deadlines and generate value
- Clear communicator with excellent presentation skills
