The Associate General Counsel needs to be an agile lawyer capable of quarterbacking important projects across various areas.


Responsibilities


Regulatory Compliance:

  • In close coordination with the General Counsel and the in-house policy team, ensure that Company complies with evolving local, state, and federal regulations related to the Company’s solar projects, including public utility commission regulations and consumer protection policies.
  • Monitor and provide guidance to Company business units regarding compliance with the requirements of various grant programs.
  • Proactively identify potential compliance risks in Company operations and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory applications, reports, filings, and documentation accurately and within deadlines.


Contract Drafting, Review & Negotiation:

  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various agreements, such as NDAs, procurement agreements, construction agreements, subcontractor agreements, power purchase agreements, community solar subscription agreements, and other Company contracts.
  • Research and employ legally compliant and current industry-appropriate contract terms on an ongoing basis.
  • Collaborate across business units to align contract terms with Company growth objectives and overall risk management strategies.
  • Monitor contractual obligations, deadlines, and milestones to ensure timely internal compliance with business objectives and outside deadlines.


Other:

  • Manage the resolution of disputes that may occasionally arise (e.g., by working with outside counsel and internal stakeholders in litigation or alternative dispute resolution).
  • Research and report on novel issues that arise in new markets, including in relation to non-legal matters (e.g., assisting the policy and business development teams).


Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing.
  • 2-4 years of relevant legal experience in regulatory compliance, contract law, or litigation, preferably within the energy or environmental sector.
  • Flexibility to work from Company Headquarters several times per month (exceptions made for ideal candidates).
  • Ability to balance business expectations with legal and regulatory compliance objectives efficiently.
  • Strong understanding of administrative law, with a particular emphasis on renewable energy and consumer protection regulations, or demonstrated knowledge of legal principles, court and regulatory procedures, and litigation processes.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adaptability and willingness to take on diverse responsibilities as the situation demands.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
