Job Title : Principal UX Designer (E-commerce) - Rapid Experimentation
(This is an individual contributor and hands-on role, NOT a leader/manager position. )
Duration : Long term contract – 6 months to start, ongoing/rolling 3 month extensions
Location : San Francisco, CA 94133 (M-Th in-office; Friday WFH. No exceptions )
Start Date : ASAP
Team/Project Overview
This Rapid Experiment team is unique, in that they are constantly and quickly iterating features on the website, ultimately to see what changes may drive business value and conversion on the website.
- Rapid Experimentation program is all about identifying friction points in the ecommerce experience (site entry, product page, product finding, search, checkout, etc.) and producing solutions/tests to run to optimize each aspect of the funnel.
- This comes down to “rapid UX discovery” (coming up with a point of view on a feature, looking at analytics, competitive audit, research, proof points, session replays, etc.) and turning multiple designs around quickly to test.
- A candidate for this role must be able to deliver effective interaction design solutions in fast-paced environment, have strong presentation and communication skills, with thick skin, able to iterate and move on as needed or if a test / design fails.
This role is different than a “classic” UX design role, as they do not follow the “normal” process of conducting customer interviews, doing usability testing, etc.
- Strong / savvy ecomm experience – need 2-3 years of related ecomm – home goods, furniture, apparel (macys, levis, gap, Walmart), grocery, makeup (sephora)
- Ecomm experience cant just be some customer facing – full funnel experience (site entry, search, product finding, check out)
Duties/Day to Day Overview
- Build relationships and work strategically with executives, product managers, creative designers, researchers, technologists, and our brands. Serves as a liaison between the business community and the IT organization to provide user experience solutions and user research to meet the business needs
- Create journey maps, wireframes, UI, specifications, audits, heuristic evaluations, taxonomy recommendations, task flows, and prototypes
- Use a deep knowledge of design principles and human behavior to design exceptional frictionless experiences
- Synthesize customer feedback, research, and analytics into actionable results
- Uses skills as seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures
- Resolves a wide range of issues in innovative and practical ways
- Strong knowledge of user experience and research best practices and methodology
- Customer focused with high quality standards
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal, business communication and writing skills
Top Requirements
(Must haves)
- 5+ years of experience in interactive design and user experience
- Experience within the ecommerce domain, experience around site optimization and high transaction websites
- Rapid Design, UX discovery experience (competitive audit, data analytics, session replays)
- A strong UX point of view and confidence communicating ideas and recommendations (i.e. why / why not will x test idea be a win, based on ux principals, data and analytics, competitive analysis, etc.
- Experience with Figma (they use this for everything - design and prototyping).
- Strong fundamentals on information and interaction design, fundamentals of UX (preferably from a relevant Degree)
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities and effectively deliver in a fast-paced environment
- Communication skills and collaborative.
- Understand what the stakeholders want and the design that they are looking for. Ability to be influential, negotiate the vision.
