The Medical Biller is responsible for managing patient accounts, processing billing information, and ensuring that healthcare providers are accurately reimbursed for their services. This role involves preparing and submitting medical claims to insurance companies, following up on unpaid claims, and addressing any discrepancies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Claims Processing: Prepare and submit medical claims to insurance companies, Medicare, and Medicaid.
- Billing: Generate accurate billing statements for patients and third-party payers.
- Insurance Verification: Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits prior to services being rendered.
- Payment Posting: Accurately post payments and adjustments to patient accounts.
- Follow-Up: Follow up on unpaid or denied claims, resolving any issues or discrepancies.
- Patient Communication: Communicate with patients regarding their accounts, billing issues, and payment plans.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidelines related to medical billing.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all billing and payment activities.
- Reporting: Prepare reports on billing activities, collections, and account statuses for management review.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing or a related field.
- Certification: Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS) or Certified Professional Biller (CPB) is a plus.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of medical terminology, billing codes (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS), and insurance processes.
- Skills: Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Technology: Proficient in medical billing software (e.g., Kareo, AdvancedMD) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies.
