Job Description
Intercap Lending is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Mortgage Underwriter to evaluate and assess mortgage loan applications for approval. The Mortgage Underwriter will play a critical role in analyzing applicant financials, credit history, and property information to determine loan eligibility and compliance with company policies and industry regulations. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of underwriting guidelines, and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
Responsibilities
* Review and evaluate mortgage loan applications for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to underwriting guidelines.
* Analyze applicant financials, credit reports, income documentation, and property appraisals to assess loan eligibility.
* Determine the risk level and make informed decisions on loan approvals, denials, or conditions.
* Collaborate with loan officers, processors, and other teams to gather additional information and documentation as needed.
* Ensure loans meet investor guidelines, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
* Prepare detailed underwriting reports outlining the rationale behind approval or denial decisions.
* Stay updated on industry regulations and underwriting standards to ensure compliance.
* Provide guidance and assistance to loan officers and processors in navigating underwriting guidelines.
* Assist in developing and updating underwriting policies and procedures.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, or related field; relevant certifications are a plus.
* 3+ years of experience in mortgage loan underwriting.
* Strong understanding of mortgage underwriting guidelines, including conventional, FHA, VA, and USDA loans.
* Proficiency in analyzing financial statements, credit reports, and property appraisals.
* Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
* Strong decision-making abilities and the ability to assess risk.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
* Familiarity with loan origination systems and underwriting software.
