JOB SUMMARY

Mechanical Designer/Checker

This opening is for a Mechanical Designer / Checker with Weld Gun Design and Coordination for Tooling Body Shop background and experience.

Mon & Friday; remote

Tues – Wed – Thurs; in office

Required Qualifications: Knowledge & Skills:

Required Skills:

  • Mechanical Designer I / for Body Shop Tooling of Body in White Assembly & With Weld Gun Design and Coordination
  • Approximately 8 years of experience
  • Catia V5 cad skills and knowledge of North American Auto Manufacturer standards and specifications for Body in White Tooling Fixtures.
  • Strong understanding of Body Assembly, (geometry setting) and Fixture Tools for Framing lines, Bodyside Systems, and subassembly for tooling fixture design.
  • Weld Gun design and coordination background & experience. Work with suppliers. Design & develop weld guns.

Strong knowledge of auto assembly strategies (i.e. part flow within an assembly plant/body Shop),

  • Understanding of how a GEO and Repot Systems function.
  • Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, Fixtures, tools, and controls, using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment-
  • Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for WeldGun BGA, Cap Aptors. Servo-Motors.
  • Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed.
  • Modify existing 3D and 2D models for “Kits” and create new designs for simple intermediate and complex systems. Develop a Kit Sheet showing before and after.
  • Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems. Drive and understand corporate and plant customer specifications and apply the company's standards for use in all aspects of mechanical designs.
  • Strong Fixture and Detail stack-up methodology and how it relates to machining and tool stack-up.
  • Understanding of customer specifications (corporate and plant), standards, and local and/or national
  • Familiar with NAAMS Standards, Customer Standards, and Attributes in CAD files, using CAD Check options.
  • Coordinate and review with Technical Leaders, Project Engineers, Sr. Mechanical Engineers, and colleagues to maintain consistency within a given project, and or to resolve design or other problems. Computers - Knowledge of Windows, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and a high degree of competence with CAD platforms and associated application software.
  • Vendor Coordination / Purch components: W in model space and paper space to bring in and ID supplier items.
  • e. Importing Weld Guns, End of Arm Tooling, switches, etc
  • Understanding of Mechanical Design Sequences / Controls documents to Controls Design along with customer deliverables.

5+ years of Mechanical Design and Engineering experience in Powertrain or associate's degree in mechanical technology or equivalent experience

  • Ability to work independently and within teams
  • Ability to travel domestically (5-20%) and internationally as project needs may be required for technical support
