Laboratory Supervisor, Nights


Physicians Group Laboratories is a new generation of laboratory testing and patient care. We provide PCR diagnostic laboratory testing and service providers across the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. The position of Laboratory Supervisor, Nights is an integral part of PGL’s mission to revolutionize laboratory testing and provider partnerships that ensure all patients receive the timely care they deserve.


Overview: As a Night Shift Supervisor in our Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory, you will play a pivotal role in operating laboratory activities during night shifts. You will oversee a team of laboratory technicians and technologists, ensuring regulatory compliance by adherence to policies and procedures, maintaining quality control standards, and facilitating efficient workflow. Your expertise in molecular diagnostics and your leadership skills will be essential in driving the laboratory's success in providing accurate and timely diagnostic results.


Responsibilities:


Supervisory Leadership:


  • Provide effective leadership and direction to the night shift team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Assign tasks and responsibilities to laboratory staff, ensuring equitable distribution of workload and efficient utilization of resources.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and identify opportunities for professional development.


Quality Assurance and Compliance:


  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including CLIA, CAP, and other relevant accreditation standards.
  • Implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure test results' accuracy, precision, and reliability.
  • Investigate and address any deviations from standard operating procedures, taking corrective actions as necessary.


Operational Oversight:


  • Coordinate daily laboratory activities, including sample processing, testing, and result reporting, to meet turnaround time goals.
  • Monitor instrument performance and troubleshoot technical issues, collaborating with technical support as needed.
  • Maintain inventory levels of reagents, supplies, and consumables, and oversee ordering and restocking processes.


Training and Development:


  • Train new hires and maintain the competencies of existing staff on laboratory procedures, safety protocols, and quality assurance practices.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in molecular diagnostics, and disseminate knowledge to the team.


Communication and Collaboration:


  • Serve as a liaison between the night shift team and day shift team in addition to other laboratory departments and with other departments and management.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding workflow priorities, testing status, and any issues impacting operations.
  • Participate in regular meetings and collaborate with cross-functional teams to address operational challenges and implement process improvements.


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Molecular Biology, or related field.
  • Certification (e.g., ASCP) as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Molecular Biologist
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a clinical molecular diagnostic laboratory, with progressive responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of molecular biology techniques, including PCR, nucleic acid extraction, and sequencing methods.
  • Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) and proficiency in data analysis and interpretation.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor team members.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, including rotating shifts and weekends.
