Position Summary

AirJoule is seeking a Field Service Engineer to join the application engineering team, which focuses on optimization of device performance and customer applications. AirJoule® technology dehumidifies air with record-breaking energy efficiency, and then converts it into pure water. The role of the Field Service Engineer is essential for success of the technology, because it connects basic R&D to customers. This role will be involved with all aspects of field deployments of AirJoule® systems and subcomponents, including basic R&D to meet customer objections, power and connect prototypes in the field, perform field servicing and repairs, and interface directly with customers. This assignment will be located at AirJoule’s headquarters in Newark, DE, and will involve up to 50% travel.

  • Support field demonstrations of AirJoule® prototypes at customer sites, including set-up and demonstration of technology, performing field maintenance, and guiding customers in optimization of device performance.
  • Act as customer liaison for identification of new opportunities and design of testing campaigns so that our customer’s needs are most adequately met. This information will directly feed into R&D efforts and the Field Service Engineer will be significantly involved.
  • Work with Applications Engineering team to design customer-specific models to ensure success of AirJoule® field deployments.
  • Implementation and evaluation of supporting technologies which enable AirJoule field deployments at customer sites, such as alternative power systems and heat transfer systems.
  • As needed, work within Applications Engineering team to support basic functions such as operation of prototypes & environmental chambers, performing QC testing and FMEA analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Travel to customer sites to facilitate prototype demonstrations and field deployments will be necessary.
  • Document experimental results in the form of PowerPoint presentations, technical report documents, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) entries.
  • Train new employees in the responsibilities listed herein and similar work.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience, or master’s degree and 3+ years of experience, in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Material Science, or related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with running and assembling multicomponent mechanical, electrical, and/or chemical systems, such as ‘rigs’, reactors, medical testing devices, automotives, technical prototypes, etc… including knowledge of safe operating methods
  • Experience with automation of laboratory or production equipment using software such as LabVIEW
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to manage multiple workflows simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems, including pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, fans, motors, and HVAC systems
  • Passionate about hands-on work while acting as a driver with respect to project execution
  • Ability to work under pressure and flexibility towards pivoting


Physical Requirements

  • Extended periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Frequent periods of walking and standing.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, and reaching.
