We are looking for a temporary Speech Language Pathologist that would be willing to cover for a period of time up to potentially 8 months. The Speech Language Pathologist will provide speech & language pathology services to patients with IDD.
Clinical
- Assess, diagnose, treat, and help prevent communication and swallowing disorders in patients with IDD.
- Communicate with patients in evaluating their levels of speech and / or language difficulty.
- Determine the extent of communication problems by administering standardized tests
- Work with physicians and dentists in identifying treatment options for the patient, the patient’s family and the treatment team.
- Create and implement an individualized treatment plan.
- Teach patients how to make sounds and improve their voices.
- Teach alternative communication methods, such as sign language, use of assistive technology to patients with little or no speech capability.
- Work with patients to increase their ability to communicate effectively.
- Work with patients to develop and strengthen the muscles used to swallow.
- Counsel patients and families in coping with communication disorders.
- Document patient care services by charting in electronic health records (EHR).
- Participate in Clinical Protocol meetings.
- Work with Leadership Team in development of, implementation of and adherence to best-practice standards and clinical protocols.
- Interview patients, care givers, guardians as needed to make recommendations.
- Adhere to the highest standards of professional ethics at all times.
- Model an attitude of mentoring and teamwork.
Academic
- Assist with the coordination and scheduling of speech & language pathology rotations.
- Coordinate with the Medical Department Head and Clinic Administrator (CA) in creating and administering continuing education programs for staff.
Education / Training / Licensure
Master of Science from ACC-accredited SLP program
Professional licensure
BLS certification
Preferred Experience
Minimum 1 year experience working with patients with IDD.
