Our client is a manufacturer of food products like RTE meals, soups, sauces, and condiments. We are looking to hire 2 food scientists. One is more junior in experience (2+ yrs), the other is more senior (5+ yrs), or could be a Corporate Research Chef (Executive Chef). This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Food Science, Meat Science, or Culinary Science. This position is eligible for relocation assistance.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Technical and application experience in food manufacturing environment.
  • Formulation of new products.
  • Benchtop, pilot plant, and commercial scale new product development.
  • Continuous improvement experience.
  • Ability to define problems, collect and interpret data, draw valid conclusions, and propose solutions.
  • Must be able to translate product feedback into optimized solutions.


R&D Responsibilities (Junior Level)

  • Document and reports on test runs and results. Identifies any potential issues or improvements to the process or formulations and discusses with management team.
  • Develops new products and line extensions from bench top to commercialization.
  • Coordinate with external vendors for ingredients and other material needs in order to fulfill organizational needs.
  • Collects and enters formulation and yield information.
  • Maintains information regarding ingredient specifications, formulas, processes and analytical data such as quality attributes, yield information, and sensory results.
  • Reports on sample status to team members and discusses any implications to the business
  • Assist management with project timelines and status updates.
  • Assist with providing product information for technical support to internal and external customers.
  • Helps identify Plant and Process Improvement Initiatives
  • Support cost-out initiatives on existing products and process; follows through with in-plant trials.
  • Will assist in customer data organization.
  • Organize internal product cuttings with customers or manufacturing team.


R&D Responsibilities (Senior Level)

  • Plans, coordinates, documents, and reports on test runs and results. Identifies any potential issues or improvements to the process or formulations and discusses with management team.
  • Develops new products and line extensions from bench top to commercialization.
  • Advanced working knowledge of an R&D organization, including product development flow and project management from conception to product launch.
  • Must be proficient in presenting technical ideas and solutions in technical reports, proposals and in customer presentations.
  • Train and mentor less experienced R&D team members.
  • Establishes an efficient base of external vendors for ingredients, packaging, equipment and technical support.
  • Provides upper management with formulation, cost, and yield information.
  • Project status updates and communication provided accordingly.
  • Maintains information regarding ingredient specifications, formulas, processes and analytical data such as quality attributes, yield information, and sensory results.
  • Reports on the sample status to team members and discusses any implications to the business.
  • Provide product information and technical support to customers.
  • Provide technical support to Sales, Quality Assurance, and Operations.
  • Helps identify Plant and Process Improvement Initiatives
  • Drives cost-out initiatives on existing products and process; follows through with in-plant trials.
  • Assist with product cuttings and/or presentations to customers in the field.
  • Provides and/or assists with technical support for internal and external customers.
