General Description of this Job: The Deputy Operations Manager shares responsibility with the Senior Operations Manager for the (sustainable) business success of the site. He/She reports to the Senior Operations Manager. The Deputy Operations Manager is responsible for the management, quality control, administration and further development of all operational functions and employees of the site. In addition to the management, the Deputy Operations Manager is jointly responsible for further development of additional business within the customer location.

Site Management

·       Together with the Senior Operations Manager, is responsible for the profitability of the site in compliance with external and internal regulations, including safety and quality

·       Actively leads or participates in all required meetings

·       Assist in planning and scheduling all crate building and packing activities to maximize throughput in an efficient and organized manner

·       Responsible for management and control of site operational processes, e.g., utilization, efficiency and profitability of service lines, adequate use of employees, temporary staffing agencies and subcontractors

·       Records (operational) key figures of the site through various means (e.g. performance data, Gemba Walks, etc) and independently derives actions from them

·       Maintains all job related documentation to ensure accurate invoicing of the customer

·       Management of operational staff on a day-to-day basis including mutliple daily floor walks

·       Ensures a high level of communication with employees and the customer across departmental boundaries, on a regular basis (e.g. through pulse checks, shop floor meetings, KPIs - discussions, ...)

·       Approves all POs and necessary expenditures for the succesful operation of the site

·       Responsible for frequent quality checks to ensure the highest level of performance

Entrepreneurial thinking

·       Develops a sustainable strategy for the site (crate and pallet building, packaging, related services), presents it to the Senior Operations Manager and/ or develops it further.

·       Drives site specific projects.

·       Has a good basic commercial knowledge of the site's P&L and is able to apply it to his/her day-to-day activities.

·       Has strong understanding of material and labor expenses and manages these parameters as efficiently as possible in his/her location.

Activities in the area of business development

·       Supports the SOM in building and maintaining the business relationship with the customer.

·       Pro-active involvement in expanding the business with the customer, including adding additional services

Activities in the OpEx area

·       Drives the continuous optimization of operational processes at the site and participates in site-specific optimization and standardization measures including all items on the MIL Smartsheet list

·       Ensures adherence to defined quality and compliance guidelines, especially all ASA-relevant topics

 

 Leadership / Direction / Coordination:

·        Assumes professional and disciplinary management responsibility for his or her employees

·        Leads employees in a goal-oriented and directional manner

·        Coordinates staff scheduling.

·        Promotes a positive, motivating and open working atmosphere

·        Identifies development needs and potential of employees

·        Leads new hire orientation and safety training

·        Creates opportunities for the development of its employees (int. o. ext. training opportunities, time, educational material, etc.)


Work Experience

·       At least 3 years management experience

·       At least 2 years of industrial packaging experience (preferred)

·       Leadership experience with diverse teams
