Job Summary: We seek a compassionate and skilled Occupational Therapist to join our multidisciplinary team at the Texas State Supported Living Center in Brenham. The Occupational Therapist will work closely with individuals with various disabilities to develop, implement, and evaluate therapeutic programs that promote functional independence, improve daily living skills, and enhance overall well-being.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct comprehensive assessments of residents' physical, cognitive, and emotional needs to determine appropriate therapeutic interventions.
  • Program Development: Design and implement individualized occupational therapy programs that address the specific goals and needs of residents.
  • Therapeutic Intervention: Provide direct therapy services, including exercises, activities, and adaptive techniques, to help residents develop or regain skills necessary for daily living.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and social workers, to ensure a holistic approach to each resident’s care.
  • Education and Training: Educate residents, families, and staff on techniques and strategies to enhance functional independence and improve quality of life.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of therapy sessions, progress notes, and treatment plans.
  • Advocacy: Advocate for residents' needs and preferences within the care team and support the implementation of person-centered care practices.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure: Current and valid Texas Occupational Therapy license.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare or supportive living setting preferred, especially with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Skills: Strong clinical assessment and intervention skills, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, and a genuine passion for working with individuals with disabilities.


Work Environment:

  • Setting: This position is based in a residential care facility with a variety of therapeutic and recreational spaces.
  • Hours: Full-time position with potential for occasional evening or weekend hours based on residents' needs.
  • Physical Demands: The role may require occasional lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
