Role:

The Assistant Principal for School Culture is a formational leader at Mater Dei Catholic High School (MDCHS). The Assistant Principal for School Culture is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, healthy, supportive environment and school culture that synthesizes our students' intellectual, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual development. The Assistant Principal for School Culture helps to create and sustain a culture of high expectations and continual support for all teachers and students, as well as promoting and enforcing a school environment that is professional and respectful of others. The Assistant Principal for School Culture is a member of the MDCHS Administrative Team.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Cura Personalis Team (student success team) by collaborating with academic staJ;
  • Lead or support faculty meetings, school committees, and in-services;
  • Be a regular presence in classrooms to observe classrooms and provide feedback to teachers, with a specific focus on positive classroom culture;
  • Promote high expectations, demonstrate a caring attitude, and establish an environment that supports social, emotional, spiritual, and academic development in all students;
  • Co-lead professional development programs for all faculty and staJ with the Principal;
  • Collect/share data on schoolwide trends;
  • Manage parts of the daily school operations (e.g., arrival/dismissal, lunch, school trips, extracurricular school activities, school events, etc.);
  • Design, implement, and sustain a culture of high expectations, achievement, and support for and among all students;
  • Establish and maintain a strong culture of engagement, trust, and support with students, faculty, and parents/families through ongoing, proactive communication;
  • Develop and implement safety drills and routines with the Principal that are known, practiced, and implemented to ensure student safety;
  • Improve and implement the school’s discipline system and other structures necessary to promote student achievement inside and outside the classroom;
  • Develop systems and structures to limit the time spent on reactive student discipline by consistently implementing research-based best practices in supporting high levels of student engagement, belonging, and success in classrooms;
  • Supports faculty in developing student support and behavior intervention systems that maintain a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive mindset;
  • Develop and implement programs to promote positive student behavior;
  • Maintain accurate discipline and behavior records, including producing contracts with students and parents and sharing monthly student discipline reports with the Principal;
  • In conjunction with the Principal, coordinate the school’s dress code and its implementation;
  • Supervise the administration of the school's discipline and attendance policies;
  • Administer appropriate consequences for behavior, including detention and Saturday school;
  • Coordinate and lead the Discipline Review Board (DRB);
  • Be willing to assume the role of the principal if necessary; and
  • Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.

Education and Experience:

  • A master’s degree in an educational field is preferred.
  • Administrative Services Credential is preferred.
  • 3+ years of successful high school teaching experience preferred.
  • 3+ years of successful high school administrative experience preferred.
  • Background in designing and executing behavior improvement plans.
  • A commitment to personal and professional integrity and moral character.
