The data engineer, which is an emerging role in the data and analytics team, will

play a pivotal role in operationalizing the most-urgent data and analytics initiatives for digital business initiatives. The bulk of the data engineer’s work would be in building,

managing and optimizing data pipelines and then moving these data pipelines effectively into

production for key data and analytics consumers (like business/data analysts, data scientists or

any persona that needs curated data for data and analytics use cases).


Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain custom SQL databases, including the Data Warehouse, covering database development, security, testing, and production support.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and vendors to define system requirements, design data models, and database architecture.
  • Utilize Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) for report development, ensuring accuracy and quality, and create stored procedures, triggers, and jobs for data imports and exports.
  • Coordinate with Information Service staff to address Microsoft SQL server issues, ensuring proper communication and managing business expectations.
  • Ensure applications are up-to-date and perform routine maintenance tasks.
  • Take charge of assigned projects, coordinating with relevant departments for effective execution, including design input, project planning, and change management.
  • Fulfill other assigned duties to maintain service excellence and adhere to departmental policies and external regulations.
  • Engage in continuous training and education to meet departmental requirements and demonstrate professional conduct in alignment with service standards and organizational policies.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, data management, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience is required.
  • An advanced degree (MS, Ph.D., MIS, etc.) in these fields is preferred.
  • At least 8 years of experience in data management disciplines (data integration, modeling, optimization, data quality) or related data engineering tasks.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with cross-functional teams and collaborating with healthcare stakeholders on data management and analytics initiatives.
  • Strong experience with database programming languages (TSQL, PL/SQL) and NoSQL/Hadoop databases (MongoDB, Cassandra).
  • Proficiency in designing and managing data pipelines, encompassing data transformation, data models, schemas, metadata, and workload management.
  • Advanced analytics tools experience with languages such as R, Python, Java, C++, Scala.
  • Experience with building and optimizing data pipelines and using traditional data integration technologies (ETL/ELT, data replication/CDC, API design).
  • Proficient with data discovery, analytics, and BI tools like Tableau and Power BI.
  • Experience with data science and machine learning model refinement and optimization.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and data security, including working with information stewards and privacy/security officers.
  • Ability to work across multiple deployment environments (cloud, on-premises, hybrid) and operating systems.
  • Proficiency in agile methodologies and applying DevOps/DataOps principles to data pipelines.
  • Healthcare knowledge or experience is a plus.
