Brooksource is searching for a Product Owner to join our Fortune 500 Energy & Utilities client in Charlotte, NC. This position will support the ‘Program Performance Tracking’ product, within our client’s Customer Insights Portfolio. ‘Program Performance Tracking’, often abbreviated as PPT, uses customer data, including interval usage data, to understand how our programs are impacting load shapes. This can be for event-based programs, energy reduction programs, evaluating electrification, or any other load modifying program.


This position is responsible for managing the product roadmap and backlog, stakeholder management as well as leading a team of IT resources for the day-to-day product development delivery. The PPT initiative is powered by a variety of in-house developed analytical data science models running in AWS. As part of the PPT initiative, these data science models will be productionalized and data products will be created to enable downstream consumption across the enterprise.


The Product Owner defines, delivers, and manages the lifecycle of products in a product portfolio. Leads a single product team developing a product as defined by the Product Complexity Model.


Responsibilities

  • Defines and manages product roadmap
  • Build, groom and prioritize the product backlog, continuously managing expectations with relevant stakeholders – including the senior leadership team
  • Manage the sprint planning process and participate in all relevant ceremonies (reviews of prior sprints, grooming, retrospectives, etc.)
  • Develop a deep contextual understanding of our customer, worker and user needs
  • Gather market feedback through user interactions, focus groups, and by performing industry research to support future development
  • Write detailed functional specifications, user stories and product documentation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams of developers, designers and analysts to implement and deliver new products and features
  • Collaborate with the organization on vision, strategy, decisioning, tactical execution, and measurement systems
  • Communicate roadmap stages and timelines internally with key stakeholders


Qualifications

  • Entrepreneurial with a strong inclination towards action.
  • (Preferred) Product Owner Certification – must otherwise be obtained within 6 months upon entry of role
  • Ability to communicate complex and innovative concepts to a new product development team
  • Clear passion for topics of technology products and an ability to identify possibilities to innovate
  • Ability to be self-directed and to proactively anticipate problems and seek opportunities.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to build relationships
  • Understanding of the SDLC process and the ability to work in an agile environment with bi-weekly releases
  • Experience operating in an environment driven by KPIs
  • 5 or more years working in utility industry
  • Experience as a Product Analyst
  • Agile Product Owner certification
  • "Black Belt" Six Sigma certification
  • Experience with Jira
  • Experience with relevant new product or technology development experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with teams developing and shipping software
