Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled SQL Database Administrator with a strong foundation in SQL database management and a proactive approach to system integration and support. This hands-on role focuses on administering and tuning SQL databases within a Linux environment while providing comprehensive support across core systems. This opportunity is ideal for a candidate with SQL or Oracle DBA experience who is excited to develop specialized skills in UniVerse database management.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Database Administration (30%): Perform hands-on monitoring, support, tuning, upgrades, and conversions of SQL databases. Provide enhancements to maximize database productivity across multiple geographies.
  • Unix/Linux Administration (25%): Support UNIX/Linux-based operations, perform performance analysis, ensure system security, and assist in system upgrades.
  • File Transfer Management (30%): Oversee high-volume file transfers, manage IBM MQ and GoAnywhere MFT installations across geographies, and support various transfer protocols (SFTP, API calls).
  • Cross-functional System Support: Collaborate on systems integration, troubleshooting, and technical support for internal applications and interfaces on multiple OS platforms.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Document processes, manage database history files, and ensure adherence to security and encryption protocols.
  • Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity: Support disaster recovery testing and maintain system availability through backup, restore, and continuity solutions.


Must-Have Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, OR 4+ years of DBA experience.
  • Technical Experience:
  • Strong proficiency with SQL databases and a solid understanding of core database administration principles. Experience with Oracle databases is a plus.
  • Familiarity with UNIX/Linux administration, including TCP/IP, DNS, and network security protocols.
  • Scripting skills for automating tasks using PowerShell or equivalent tools.
  • System & Security Knowledge: Strong knowledge of SSH certificates, encryption standards (PGP, GPG, FIPS 140-2), and secure transfer protocols.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to interact with IT peers and provide technical insights and solutions.


Preferred Skills

  • Experience with IBM MQ, GoAnywhere MFT, and Veeam backup/restore solutions.
  • RedHat Linux experience to support server administration in a smaller, cross-functional team.
  • Familiarity with PICK UniVerse/UniData environments.
