Our client, a leading gas and electric company, has an excellent opportunity for a Principal BI/Data Engineer to work on a 12+month contract opportunity. Work will be a hybrid on-site/remote schedule in Charlotte, NC. The Principal BI/Data Engineer will work with Data Engineers, Data Warehouse Developers, and Data Architects to create Business Intelligence visualizations in Power BI and design and develop enterprise data architecture solutions using AWS Cloud Technologies.


This position is a contract opportunity, offering a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance, plus 401(k), and weekly payment.


Responsibilities of the Principal BI/Data Engineer:

  • Expert level knowledge of PowerBI with the ability to create custom dashboards and maintain and modify existing dashboards
  • Design and develop enterprise data architecture solutions using AWS Cloud Technologies like AWS Athena, EMR, Glue and other data technologies like Spark, Python, SQL, etc.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to gather and understand reporting requirements.
  • Design, implement, and manage data warehouse solutions.
  • Apply best practices in data modeling to ensure data integrity and performance.
  • Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture.
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional/non-functional business requirements.
  • Devise and execute continual improvement initiatives in all Data Management Service delivery and technology, with a focus on delivery velocity and quality.
  • Proficient in SQL, Apache PySpark and Python.
  • Proficient in developing ETL data pipelines.
  • Responsible for the design and delivery of data solutions to empower data migration initiatives, BI initiatives, dashboards development, etc.


Requirements of the Principal BI/Data Engineer:

  • 5+ years of experience in data analysis and developing technological business strategies.
  • Experience in using BI and data visualization tools like Power BI and Tableau
  • Knowledge of SQL and cloud data warehousing technologies, including Redshift or BigQuery
  • Strong analytical mindset and creative problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Apache PySpark and Spark.


Preferred Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent work experience).
