Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Maintenance Unit Supervisor for our Rolling Department. The successful candidate will provide leadership and guidance to a team, ensuring the efficient production of metal in a lean manufacturing environment. Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, this role focuses on productivity, safety, quality, and problem-solving to meet business goals in a cost-effective, customer-centric manner.


Key Responsibilities

Safety and Environment: Maintain a safe work environment and ensure that the workplace is free from harm to people or the environment. Lead individual safety discussions and conduct job-specific safety reviews.

Operational Leadership: Support operating results by managing the team with a focus on quantity, quality, timeliness, safety, recovery, and delivery performance. Develop team members by providing challenging assignments and offering training, coaching, and mentoring.

Work Allocation: Fairly and clearly assign work to crew members, prioritizing tasks based on business criticality. Plan and allocate crew arrangements for planned and unplanned situations, considering absences, schedule requirements, and equipment availability.

Technical Leadership: Lead a skilled maintenance workforce that values diversity, customer orientation, and flexibility. Collaborate with craftspeople to apply root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques to maintain or restore production.

Data and Analysis: Gather data to assist in applying root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques for major exceptions. Ensure effective asset management to optimize equipment operations and long-term viability.

Lean Manufacturing: Advance business objectives regarding quality, cost management, waste elimination, and lean manufacturing principles.

Performance Management: Make decisions about performance, recognizing and rewarding achievements and addressing discipline issues fairly and equitably. Maintain documentation to support actions taken.

Relationship Building: Develop relationships and influence others to resolve problems, change perspectives, and enhance customer satisfaction.


Shift Details

12-hour shifts with rotation from days to nights approximately every 6-12 weeks, depending on business conditions.


Basic Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent (GED) from an accredited institution

Minimum of 3 years of hands-on maintenance experience

Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience with direct reports


Preferred Qualifications

Supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment

Mechanical background is a plus

Experience in a union environment is a plus

Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and concepts (ABS)


Candidate Profile

2+ to 5 years of relevant experience

Associate level seniority

Management experience required

Minimum education of High School Diploma or equivalent
