Payroll Specialist

A local Lake County client is seeking a temporary Payroll Expert for their financial department, to assist with general payroll. This role is crucial to ensuring accurate and timely bi-weekly payroll disbursement while adhering to college policies and government regulations.

Key Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting or a related field with a minimum 5 years of payroll experience (or equivalent experience with Associate's degree or High School diploma).OR
• High school or equivalent and ten (10) years of payroll processing experience with an organizational headcount of 100 or more employees. Minimum 5 years of experience leading, supervising or managing payroll for organizations with 100+ employees.
• Proven expertise in PeopleSoft/Oracle payroll system.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee all payroll functions, including policy compliance, customer service, technology, and staff management.
• Ensure accurate and compliant bi-weekly payroll processing (including deductions, benefits, taxes, etc.).
• Calculate payroll liabilities and resolve withholding issues, acting as a liaison to government agencies.
• Lead year-end preparations (W2s, reporting).
• Handle audits, FOIA requests, and court subpoenas related to payroll records.
• Prepare and present reports and analyses.
• Maintain a pay practice guide for employees and communicate payroll changes.
• Train and support managers, supervisors, and employees on payroll functions.

$70/hour - pay is negotiable based on experience

Day time hours. This role is temporary for 6-7 months, with the possibility of extension.
