Job Overview

The Chief of Staff will work closely with the founder, acting as an extension of his leadership. This role involves managing key relationships, driving business development, enhancing business operations, and supporting the founder across all his professional and personal endeavors, including external ventures.

Your primary goal is to streamline the CEO's responsibilities, improve operational efficiencies, and continuously create value. A successful Chief of Staff may eventually transition to a CEO role within one of the organization’s incubations or portfolio companies.

Responsibilities

Venture Focus (70%)

  • Relationship Management: Act as the CEO's proxy, managing communications across email, texts, and Slack. Maintain constant dialogue with investors, buyers, sellers, clients, employees, and consultants. Serve as a buffer between the CEO and external demands.
  • Chief of Staff Duties: Collaborate with employees, the family office, the founder’s EA, accountants, money managers, bankers, lawyers, contractors, builders, service providers, and bookkeepers. Assist with strategy, decision-making, and organizational tracking.
  • Deal Sourcing & Business Development: Engage in daily calls to source new and exciting deals and investments. Implement and manage a CRM system, ensuring accurate organization of all LPs, CEOs, and Founders.
  • Investor Relations: Conduct Zoom calls, texts, and phone calls with investors. Prepare investment memos using Notion and gauge investor interest. Facilitate discussions for large stakes in companies and manage buyer-seller relationships. Provide regular updates to investors, highlighting exciting developments like SpaceX milestones.

Other Initiatives (30%)

  • Business Operations: Support the CEO's other ventures, including real estate, a wedding venue, wine business, publishing, CPG, and personal endeavors. Oversee the wine business with a focus on increasing revenue and reducing expenses.
  • Project Management: Be a Swiss army knife to collaborate with the CEO on his many personal interests, from his wedding venue property to real estate, art, international travel, and social media.
  • Events & Networking: Attend venture conferences to connect with emerging founders and represent Gatsby Ventures in the industry.

Requirements
  • Passionate about technology, venture capital, AI, space exploration, CPG, investing, real estate, and entrepreneurship.
  • Self-motivated and proactive; thrives without micromanagement. A self-starter with a hustler mentality.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a highly operational role, preferably within a high-growth startup or venture fund.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities effectively.
  • Proficient in Slack, GSuite, WhatsApp, CRM platforms, AngelList or Carta, Notion, and Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets (Financial Planning and Analysis).
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver 10x return on value.

Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA or an advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience working directly with C-level executives.
  • Familiarity with venture capital, CPG, and digital marketing sectors.
  • Strong network within the venture capital and family office ecosystems.

Ideal Candidate
  • Possesses an exceptional work ethic and hustle.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Enjoys communication and excels in talking, selling, calls, and texting.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Adaptable and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
