Position Summary: The Security Officer will be responsible for ensuring the safety of the guests and colleagues at the hotel and convention center. This will be done by handling emergency situations, assisting with incident investigation and follow-up, staff training, and handling lost and found items in accordance with policy and procedure.


Detailed Description:

  • Responsible for all surveillance and patrol of property.
  • Escort Guest and employees, as requested.
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly service-oriented manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality with respect to guest and colleague incidents.
  • Respond to all emergency calls.
  • Assist with investigating room thefts, auto accidents/thefts, and assault complaints for guests.
  • Assist HR when investigation colleague altercations.
  • Document a concise security report on a daily log including incidents of theft, accidents and safety violations.
  • Completes incident reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities; interviewing witnesses, obtaining signatures.
  • Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities; informing violators of policy and procedures; restraining trespassers.
  • Assess risk and possible safety hazards in all aspects of operations.
  • Evacuating guests in the event of a fire or another emergency and obtain help by sounding alarms.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement or emergency services as required.
  • Be knowledgeable about hotel and guestroom locking systems.
  • Ensure security of hotel key system; assist with issuing and receiving keys for colleagues.
  • Handle items for “Lost and Found” according to policy.
  • Transport guests safely to and from the airport; or other locations by driving a shuttle van or other vehicles.
  • Abide by all organizational policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Security experience preferred
  • Must have a driver’s license
  • Excellent hearing required to communicate with guests, employees, managers, and use a radio
  • Excellent vision required for emergencies, visual safety inspections, etc.
  • Comprehension and literacy required to complete reports
  • Lifting/pushing/pulling, carrying – may be necessary to carry people or equipment in emergency situations
  • Bending/kneeling could be necessary in administering First Aid
  • Mobility - necessary 100% of the time in responding to emergencies and patrolling the building
  • Continuous standing
  • Ability to use stairs in responding to fire alarms or other emergencies
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment
