Join Us as a Client Portfolio Manager

We are looking for a Client Portfolio Manager to join our Investment Research Group (IRG), the centralized investment team within our Multi-Family Office (MFO) business. The IRG is responsible for asset allocation, portfolio construction, manager selection and monitoring, risk management, and other investment-related decisions for our clients. Currently, the IRG oversees an asset base exceeding $56 billion, invested in over 25 different internal and external investment strategies.

In line with our mission of delivering investment excellence and inspiring client confidence, we have launched the Client Portfolio Management & Strategy (CPMS) team. This team communicates our best investment thinking to client teams and clients.

This newly created Client Portfolio Manager position will report directly to the Head of CPMS. The CPMS team is integrated into the investment team, remaining current on investment managers and portfolio strategy.

The CPMS team collaborates closely with:

  1. The Investment Research Team in IRG, staying updated on investment philosophy, manager selection, and market updates.
  2. Relationship Managers to ensure that client portfolios reflect our best thinking, aligned with each client’s goals and objectives.
  3. The Investment Operations & Analytics Team within IRG, responsible for executing decisions, including manager onboarding and technology implementation.

The Client Portfolio Manager will represent our multi-asset class investment portfolios to clients and prospects, working directly with both existing and prospective clients to communicate our investment strategies and overall portfolio approach. This role will include performing ad hoc investment analyses as requested by clients and overseeing clients’ asset allocation and portfolio construction alongside their Relationship Manager.

Responsibilities include preparing and presenting portfolio proposals, conducting portfolio reviews, providing updates on individual investment manager strategies, and contributing to written content. The ideal candidate will have experience discussing portfolios with clients across multiple asset classes, capturing key portfolio insights, and conducting research projects and analyses. Strong skills in synthesizing research findings, investment writing, and creative presentation content are essential. The investment collateral produced may cover macroeconomics, investment themes, portfolio composition, performance metrics, and rationale for investment decisions. Staying informed about market developments and updates from all managers on the investment platform is crucial.

While headquartered in New York City, the CPMS team manages Front Office and client-facing activities across our US offices, including Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Houston, Nashville, and Philadelphia. We welcome applications from candidates interested in working from any of these locations, with occasional travel to other offices and the IRG team in New York City as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Portfolio Management Support

  • Serve as an investment expert for taxable and non-taxable clients, effectively communicating our investment philosophy and portfolio approach.
  • Collaborate with the Investment Team to stay current on portfolios and communicate performance and manager updates to clients.
  • Participate in client meetings, document key takeaways, and ensure timely delivery of all deliverables.
  • Work with the Investment Team, CPMS, and Relationship Managers to provide analytics that aid in investment decision-making, including private equity modeling and tax-related information.
  • Lead the monitoring of legacy managers or individual holdings in client portfolios not covered by the Investment Research Team.
  • Engage actively in investment discussions and decision-making processes within IRG.

Client Relationship Management

  • Support Relationship Managers by providing information about the investment platform and assisting with data and other information requests.
  • Create timely, client-specific materials, reports, and thought pieces to address client needs.
  • Draft communications for relationship teams, including summaries of key data for each manager, top investment holdings, and ad hoc commentary.
  • Participate in the onboarding process for new client relationships.
  • Assist in managing timely and thoughtful responses to client inquiries, organizing and streamlining responses and FAQs.

Asset Allocation, Market Analysis, and Content Generation

  • Assist in developing processes to ensure that client portfolios are managed in accordance with investment policy statements.
  • Recommend rebalancing strategies when market movements affect portfolio targets.
  • Monitor and analyze portfolio exposure data for client policy portfolios.
  • Analyze market and macroeconomic developments that may influence portfolio construction or other investment decisions.
  • Write market commentary that addresses potential risks while highlighting our bottom-up investment approach.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, investment manager updates, and macroeconomic developments that may impact portfolio construction or client communication.

Qualifications:

  • BA or equivalent; advanced degree and/or CFA/CAIA is a plus.
  • 8+ years of relevant investment-related experience.
  • A blend of investment acumen and client experience to effectively represent a multi-asset class portfolio.
  • Strong conceptual and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills, including data analysis.
  • Experience managing and/or mentoring colleagues.
  • Knowledge of our products, practices, and investment philosophy is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products, particularly PowerPoint and Excel, is required.
