Quality Technician

Location: Bolingbrook, IL

Job Description:

Mycocycle is looking for a sharp, experienced, and adaptable individual within a fast-paced startup environment to help drive quality programs and perform microbiology/culture management. As a Quality Technician, you’ll play a pivotal role in advancing our mission to harness the power of mycelium for bioremediation and biomaterial development. This role is on location at our headquarters in Bolingbrook, IL.


This role's main responsibility will be maintaining working stock cultures for production and monitoring and documenting quality checks within the production environment. In addition, this role will support materials receipt and tracking along with creating customer samples. The ideal candidate will have a history of driving quality in a production environment and is comfortable within cross-functional teams. Most importantly, the ability to observe, document, communicate and synthesize actions from results is highly desired.


Responsibilities:

  • Maintain production laboratory and quality records for all materials and finished goods.
  • Record all test results in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Collect and test incoming and outgoing raw material and product samples promptly to promote
  • efficient production operations.
  • Report quality issues to operations leadership on site.
  • Maintain knowledge of product specifications and requirements and communicate this
  • information to other employees.
  • Ensure all products shipped meet requirements.
  • Ensure incoming raw materials meet requirements.
  • Lead root cause analysis by using tools such as fishbone or 5-Why.
  • SOP writing and documentation.
  • Support production, as needed.
  • Support customer sample creation and inventory management.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement activities in cooperation with R&D and production.
  • Contribute to the general maintenance of the laboratory.
  • Preparation of growth media.
  • Maintenance of working stock cultures.
  • Support production with inoculation.
  • Coordinate with R&D Lab personnel on culture stock needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement.
  • Provide routine quality updates to internal teams and leadership.
  • Collaborate with process development, R&D, and operations to establish and monitor target
  • growth, environments, and provide routine updates to the team.
  • Requirements:
  • An associate degree or greater in biology, mycology, microbiology, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of prior experience in a quality role with microbiology skills, preferably in a startup or
  • small production facility.
  • Knowledge of aseptic techniques.
  • Experience working in a laminar flow hood and/or Biosafety Cabinet required.
  • Proficiency in bench microbiology.
  • Self-starter.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • The ability to think critically about results and provide recommendations.
  • Must be able to pivot and adapt as the startup evolves.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to be physically active for long periods of time.
  • General Work Hours: 7 am – 3 pm.
