Join Shumaker, where the excitement of legal excellence intersects with an enjoyable and vibrant workplace As a Litigation Associate you will engage in sophisticated and challenging commercial litigation work for clients in South Carolina and nationwide. Our ideal candidate will have 5+ years of commercial litigation experience, along with deposition and trial experience. This position will focus on business litigation such as LLC membership and shareholder disputes, trust, private & estate litigation, and contractual disputes. Property tax litigation is a plus, but not required.

This position will work in-person at our Charleston, South Carolina office.


Education, Experience and Skills Required:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school
  • Active South Carolina bar license
  • 5+ years’ professional commercial litigation law practice experience
  • Strong technological skills, including proficiency with practice management systems and portals
  • Superior research skills, including the use of online services and databases
  • Project management skills, including the ability to successfully manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadline
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently and maintain a high degree of confidentiality


Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting position static for up to one-half hour at a time
  • Lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to one hour per day
  • Bending and stooping occasionally, up to one-half hour per day
