As a Victim Advocate Attorney in the Huntington office of LAWV, you will primarily represent victims of domestic violence, in matters related to achieving safety and meeting other basic needs. You will have direct responsibility for interacting with clients, and representing them in court, with support from and collaboration with other attorneys and community partners.


This position will largely serve the city of Huntington as well as the surrounding areas in Cabell, Wayne, and Mason counties. In the ever-changing but ongoing opioid crisis, Cabell County has the highest overdose rate in the state of West Virginia, which has led the nation in overdose rates for years. This position is a chance to work at the front lines in the battle against poverty and injustice, in a vibrant college town which is home to Marshall University. This position also presents a unique challenge, to work alongside recovery treatment providers to improve the health outcomes of West Virginians working hard at their recovery—in particular, addressing legal needs that will improve recovery results and reduce the likelihood of relapses and fatal overdoses. Bordering Kentucky and being a reasonable drive from the state capitol of Charleston, Huntington provides a rare living experience of combining the perks of metro life with access to the great outdoors. Food lovers will find endless options of gourmet restaurants and recreational and social events, while nature lovers have incredible hiking and walking experiences only a short distance away from the office.
