Position Overview

The assistant underwriter is responsible for multi-line underwriting and acts as a liaison with outside vendors and internal departments Functions include underwriting / pricing new and renewal policies, negotiation, coordinating policy services, facultative reinsurance placements, providing insurance & agency services, program management and marketing support.


Essential Functions

  • Advanced knowledge of P & C commercial lines products (Property, General Liability and Auto), coverage forms, rating plans, complex risk evaluation, agency operations and program management.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with all internal and external business partners.
  • Experience with underwriting large auto fleets.
  • The ability to develop, understand, manipulate and interpret statistical information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments.
  • Works effectively within assigned authority level to achieve strategic and organizational goals.
  • Interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Effectively negotiates and communicates challenging underwriting decisions to our internal and external business partners.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism
  • Identifies challenges and creates solutions

Job Requirements

Required

  • High school diploma
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in insurance underwriting operations or comparable business experience
  • Knowledge of P&C commercial lines products (Auto, Property, GL, Umbrella)
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.


Preferred:

  • CT Producers license
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience working with agents and brokers
  • Basic understanding of Affordable and Public housing operations and insurance contracts
  • Commercial auto underwriting experience


Work environment & Physical Demands

  • Inside climate-controlled office building
  • Ability to lift 25lbs
