Job Summary:
The Applications Scientist has a Medical Technologist background and will work in the R&D System Verification Labs conducting manual smear reading.
Read Manual smears for project requirements for a given period of time
Overview:
The Senior Applications Scientist, with a background in Medical Technology, will be responsible for system level characterization, verification testing, and software workflow testing within the R&D System Verification Labs.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct system verification testing of new or modified hematology analyzers with minimal supervision, ensuring adherence to plans, procedures, and schedules.
- Execute testing including customer workflows, Quality Control, Calibration, and analysis of whole blood specimens.
- Ensure products meet specified requirements and specifications.
- Assist in troubleshooting product performance issues by collaborating with Software, Engineering, and addressing specific customer application concerns.
- Analyze and interpret technical data using statistical methods, and report and document issues promptly.
- Prepare and document procedures, test execution, and results accurately in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Prepare presentations and participate in design reviews.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and policies in the laboratory.
Education:
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in a related field with 5+ years of experience, or
Master of Science (M.S.) degree in a related field with 3+ years of experience.
Certifications:
Certified Medical Technologist (ASCP/AMT preferred).
Experience:
- General laboratory workflow.
- Hematology experience including CBC, 5 Part Differential, flagging, and result review.
- Execution and review of decision rules with reflex and rerun test orders.
- LIS test order processing, review, and result release.
- Basic laboratory statistics.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word); familiarity with Data Analysis programs such as JMP is a plus.
- Proven technical writing and presentation skills, and excellent communication abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
